The abilities are mostly magic because you can't use too many stam abilities and run out of stamina and not have any to block with.

You can get stamina back quickly by heavy attacking which tanks do in between mechanics and you can't gain stamina back while blocking so stamina is conserved. Magic on the other hand, even with Alcasts builds from what I read last (a year ago maybe), you need high magic recovery for your abilities that make you tanky. Why have high stamina recovery when you are blocking and not using it anyways and not use the magic for abilities that increase your resistance and even as a DK, will give you immediate health back. You can even exchange magic for stamina on a DK if you need to but you can't do the opposite.

But like I said, it's been a while since I looked up Alcasts tank build but even then, I look at a lot of other builds. Tank doesn't equal stam. It's literally a resource balance between the two with health to help with other things that are associated with it (I think shield amount is based on health now and not magic?)

It's been a while since I updated my tank though but I am sure the same concept of stam/magic balance is still required for tanks.

Edit: If you are talking Ice staff build....well that is out of my knowledge. That is a whole new area I have yet to watch anyone, personally, conquer, because the staff does not give you the same benefits as sword/board does.

I certainly have a preference for Stamina builds over Magicka, but have fully-leveled and geared toons for Stam and Mag versions of every class. They all feel different and they're all quite fun in their own ways. Check out my Sig below for more details on each.

If they really are bringing a new class, I hope it comes with additional slots cause I'm not deleting any of my well-seasoned toons, especially not for anything that sounds so redundant as Sorc2.0.

Personally, I greatly prefer S&B/2H for all of my tanks. The instant shields while still damaging everything around from Cleave you lets you brute force your way through content that might otherwise start wearing you down, self heals from Rally, and being able the help quickly execute bosses helps the team keep up a great pace... All of that honestly keeps me on my 2H bar far more than S&B. 2H gets overlooked far more than it deserves.
