Just play the game. I play maybe 2-3 hours a night (when I was playing regularly) and I'm CP 754. It's not hard to out pace the DLC and CP increases.

I tried to do my daily dungeons and pledges on as many characters as possible. That seemed pretty efficient. Other than that I never really gave my cp a second thought, mostly just tried to be good at whatever I was doing at whatever CP I had and that's how I recommend people go about it.

I see people talk about "grinding" CP and that sounds awful. I've never popped an xp scroll on a CP level char with the intent of grinding CP. I'm 805 at the moment I think.

In the beginning there was no CP cap (other than the hard cap of 3600), and each CP cost 400k XP (so using your enlightenment each day would give you 1 CP). Some people saw this as motivation to grind as much as possible and racked up hundreds of CP. Some players even had more than 1000. So ZOS decided they were going to introduce a cap and an XP curve to make lower CP easier to get than higher ones. They also added a 1.5x XP penalty for people above the cap.

Since I was already above cap when that changed, my CP at that time were costing just over 600k XP. Now I'm getting close to 1000 CP and they cost just over 800k.

As others have mentioned, just playing the game doing what you enjoy will usually get you CP at a good pace. I like running dungeons, so I queue up for random normals on my healers if I feel I'm building up too much enlightenment. But other than that I just run around with my guild.

very slowly...was never in a rush to reach veteran ranks (wanted to stay in blackwater blade at the time)...

then, when I did finally reach veteran, I also created 9 other characters whom I leveled and didn't provide any cp when I played them ...plus, most of the characters stayed in pvp...

so, I leveled my cp very slowly...I'm around 870 now i think...mostly though because i just play a lot (about 150 days in eso now)...

A few random dailies each day.

      Maximizing use of enlightened time.

Those who said they just played the game didn’t mention that cp was easier to get back then, we didn’t have cp caps and enlighten was bugged

When cp caps did come in we were well over cap and have been since. There’s some people I know who stopped playing 2 years ago and still 880 cp

Some people also seem to forget that when you grinded a character up from 3-50 back in the day you gained CP while doing it, and you used to get ~70CP per character
We also had faction instanced grind spots

6 weeks after I made this thread I'm level 600, which means I've levelled up 75 times after playing every day. Not too bad I suppose. Thanks for all the responses.

When you are max cp, you need way more xp for next cp due to catch up system. I came back from game after a break and was cp 950. Now I'm cp 1058, and I really didn't do much. I played maybe a dung and two a day, mostly I did pvp. Some battlegrounds etc. I need almost 900k xp each champion point, and I feel I'm getting all the time.
This is without any xp potions, and my bank is filled with xp boosts from daily reward. Just don't think about it too much and enjoy. If some guilds require you to have max cp, they don't know what they are talking about. As long as you are a good player and know the game, those last 100 cp shouldn't matter at all for your progression.

I'm not at cap, but this is my method as well. I tried the grind, but it simply burnt me out. Doing what I normally do, and having fun, works out well in the long run..at least for me.

I can't tell you about the bugged enlightenment, since that never happened to me, but no, CP was not easier to earn back them. it was a flat 400k experience per CP. Now with the curve and the cap at 780, the first CP that costs more than 400k is 691.

Someone who was at the cap of 501 when they introduced it had earned almost 200 million XP to get there (400k x 501 is 200,400,000, but we did get some XP from having vet levels)

Today, 200 million XP will get you to 797 CP, which is above cap right now.
When cp caps did come in we were well over cap and have been since. There’s some people I know who stopped playing 2 years ago and still 880 cp

I think I was at around 540 CP when they introduced the cap, and I don't grind. There were people with a lot more, but they spent weeks in Cracked Wood Cave or killing serpents in Reaper's March or whatever the grind-spot-of-the-week was.
Some people also seem to forget that when you grinded a character up from 3-50 back in the day you gained CP while doing it, and you used to get ~70CP per character

You are misremembering. We never got CP for under-50 characters. We did get some introductory CP based on our highest Vet Level character.

And while we don't have faction instances anymore, there are server shards. Not to mention Skyreach.

I only grind for CP during double XP events. Although the incentive to do so wanes once you accumulate enough CPs to last for half a dozen patches.

Usually, I gain 2 CPs per week. With my current level at CP 914, It's going to take more than a year for CP cap to catch up.

Been playin since before they introduced the system and had 4-5 chars fully V16 when they finalized the system
Other than that, bombing, random normals, writ vouchers, for a time raiding, and vma, and the events also helped a lot currently at 1238 cp

Grinding vampire orcs in the Imperial Sewers... faster than the Skyreach grind if you do it right. Make sure you have millions of gold to pay for all the XP pots, though.

UPDATE. Here's a screenshot from when I grinded my second account all the way to max CP (which was 720 then) in less than 7 days of game time:

Because of my work schedule, this took around 2 months exactly in real life.

I’m currently cp680something.. I’m happy in myself that I am now at more cp than the max was when I first started a year or so ago (my memory tells me 650 but doing the maths it’s probably 660 lol). Each update draws me a little closer now.. 650 when update 19 launched.. 100 behind..I’ll be closer next time.

I figure if you just use your enlightenment every day - you will make significant gains right? 400k is just one dungeon. Easy 30 levels a month. Updates are what? Every 3 months?

Been playing almost 3 yrs with very little xp grinding and I am currently 816 and at the risk of sounding redundant, by just playing the game. Grinding burns me out so much faster in my olden years I just rarely do it anymore.

But if you really want to get there use xp potions/scrolls while doing high paying xp content like sky reach or grinding dolmens, MA, or dungeons. I regularly get large amounts of xp when doing dungeons for the first time using xp potions/scrolls.

Clear zones as you progress through the story. I’m doing that on an alt and by the end of Stonefalls she was already lvl35.

The first time I just did all of Cadwell’s quests, did Craglorn, ran normal trials, cleared out dungeons I ignored before hand.

You’ll have plenty before you know it

1st account took like 9 months to hit max level. 2nd account took 25 days to grind to max level in spellscar with gold training armor, 150% xp pots, and event xp boosts (100%) through the majority, as well as eso+. Ended up with like 50 hours or so play time I think by the time it was max level at the time (720).

I did it by milking the enlightenment. For months I wouldn't let it overflow, I'd use psijic ambrosia with random dungeons or (later) master writs when I wasn't getting enough XP from other sources. If it gets down to 0, consider delaying a high-XP event for the next day.

Questing mainly ... And also dumb as it sounds ... Playing other games

This allows the enlightenment to stack ... Up to a maximum bid 12 days

So when you next play you rocket through levels ... Doesn't feel as grindy and lets you enjoy the content rather than just killing mobs repeatedly to grind CP

Only time I grind mobs is the 1 to 50 phase

As it's normally a PvP character I'm building that I ultimately never use
