If you are hitting more than 1 target most of the time then Reflective Light, if you are looking to maximize single target damage then Vampires Bane.

I usually go for Reflective Light as I have found the extra 3000-4000 damage over the course of the 7.2 seconds is not worth the utility of being able to hit multiple targets, especially for the slow. It's one of the very few cc skills Templars have than can hit multiple opponents. In fact I think it is the only one.

What I really wish is that the Major Sorcery part of the skill lasted longer than the 7.2 seconds. At least 15 seconds (the standard buff time for most skills in the game) would be far better.

i don't see how vampire's bane is worth not having reflective light, even if you're a tank or something and want to save magicka while keeping a dot on one target

Yeah, Reflective Light has overall far more utility IMO. The extra damage from Vampire's Bane might be nice in some single-target fights, but I'd say that at least 90% of fights are against multiple enemies, so Reflective Light is far better in those cases. Applying initial damage, a movement reduction, and a DoT to 3 enemies is pretty damn good - especially when it ups your spell crit for a bit. Reducing that to only a single target, and just increasing the DoT is not a worthwhile tradeoff as far as I'm concerned.

Yes and for PvP purposes (unsure if you intend to do this or not) anything with an AOE component or can hit multiple targets is desired.

I was considering the same thing, and don't know why the single-target morph is marked 'advised' over the 3 targets.

Keep in mind, VB benefits from destro staff single target bonus damage when using fire staff, and RL benefits from the AoE bonus of lightning staves.

That means that with the current state of sustain (which is not an issue) VB is the better option.

You running other AOE or single target? I decide based on that and using either a fire staff or lightning.

Only the initial hit from reflective light is buffed by a lightning staff, the dot after is not and is buffed by a fire staff.

You see this thread is from 2015 right? The skill has changed since then, mostly because of Enduring Rays being changed to a flat value, from 20% longer to a flat value of 2 seconds, meaning that vamp bane ticks for 11 seconds instead of the 10.5 it did when this thread was created, meaning you get another tick of damage out of it as the skill ticks every one second.

The biggest difference is that the major prophecy lasts for as long as the dots ticks for, so with vamp bane, the buff lasts for 11 seconds but with reflective light it is only 7 seconds. You also do not get the buff unless you actually hit a target. Neither of these things are a big deal in pve, you slot inner light and/or use pots for Major prophecy and mobs rarely dodge so you dont miss too often but in PvP, where you might use this skill for the major prophecy, you don't usually slot inner light and people regularly dodge the slow projectile from the skill.
