Two questions on gear as a new CP160

Someone who just got all the way to max blacksmithing to make a dagger isn't crazy to hear 'you don't want crafted'.

I either haven't or have barely heard of the sets above, have to look them up...

You may farm spriggans in Bangkorai and Automaton in Deshaan dungeon, also develop
fighters guild skill line first of all. you’ll be fine with that in the beginning, also training on dummy is a must, it will double or even triple your dps.

Automaton's primarily useful for Stam Sorcs. Stamblades tend to get less value from it because most of their morphs convert to Disease damage rather than Physical.

Hunding's is a nice reliable Weapon Damage buff. If you can get it quickly, 5pc Hundings, 4pc Night Mother's Gaze , 3pc Agility (jewelry), should be a nice starting point to build from. It's very basic but provides some nice buffs. If you plan ahead, you can make sure your weapons, head, and shoulder are NMG, so you can replace them with a monster set, and a jewelry and weapon set of your choice.

OK, before I get to some of the fancier ideas above I haven't seen in game, my blacksmithing is now level 10, so I'm ready to craft a dagger. I have the scarab sting, Spriggan's Thorns set, which I upgraded to epic.

Otherwise, I'm using 5/5 Viper's Sting and 3/5 unfathomable darkness, mainly because they seemed ok and I got them.

Option 1: Craft a set dagger (which set? Another Spriggan's or something else?)

Option 2: Craft a dagger with a trait (just learned nirnhorn's' today).

    Option 3: other ideas?

    You can't craft Spriggan's.

With a handful of exceptions, crafted sets cannot be obtained from non-crafting sources. (There's a tiny handful of exceptions to this.) So, if a piece of gear drops, you can be very sure it's can't be crafted.

I'm not wild about Viper's Sting on a Nightblade. It's not terrible for a StamDK, so I'm not saying, "get rid of it."

For now, don't worry about nirnhoned.

I mean, my stamblade runs 5pc Hundings, 2pc Stonefist (Tempest Isle), 5pc Vicious Serpent. But it's not like that's the only road forward. (Also, it'll be awhile before you can farm VO.) If you want to get Hulking Draugr from Direfrost for your other 5pc, that's not bad.

Bone Pirate is also a nice set. It's quite farmable with the right company and since infused 1h swords and rings are named drops too, you get quite fast a weapon+jewelry set.

But, thb, the same is true for Draugr Hulk, since precise dagger and ring are named drops.

My only caveat on Bone Pirate is, because it requires a drink buff to be active, it really encourages use of Dubious Camoran Throne. If you have that, great. If you don't... its value takes a hit.

True. And true, I can craft both boss drinks. I especially like the fact, that both barely contain rare ingredients.

Also, remember that for crafted sets, you need traits researched.
If you want to craft an item from the Hunding's Rage set, you'll need six known traits (doesn't matter which ones) for that item.
It's not actually a progression ("a six-trait set is always better than a three-trait set" is not really true) but it gives a few hints, and the better sets are usually behind 5-6 traits.

Crafting non-set items isn't worth it. You could use random drops for that, and even sets that aren't particularly good, are better than non-set items.

The three-item sets of Willpower (for Magicka), Endurance (for Health), and Agility (for Stamina) are a good choice if you want to fill slots; even their two-piece bonus is useful (and generally stronger than similar two-piece bonuses from regular sets). Jewelry and weapons (no armour) drop from random dungeon rewards or can be bought from guild traders at decent prices.

As others have said, Spriggan's is a dropped set, you can't craft that one. One dagger doesn't do anything; two daggers give you a line of max stamina which is useful but the same with two Agility daggers would be higher. If you can get four or five items of the set, then it's going somewhere.

But the tip with Hunding's Rage is really good; you can pair it with your Viper stuff and complete it with Agility, for instance. Hunding's is one of the (rather few) crafted sets that can somewhat compete with dropped sets.

Good info. I just bought two armor pieces from Spriggans I can add to the dagger for 5k; he also had a sword for 40k, but a little more than I want to spend and I'd prefer another dagger anyway.

So I'm hearing I think you say 5 Hunding's crafted would be good (?) I'm not sure if your statement is 'well, if you have to have crafted, Hundig's is ok', or that it's actually a good choice over dropped sets.

Another question that comes up, does it matter which pieces - for example, whether to get Hundig's's or Sprggan's for armor, weapons, or jewelry - or does it matter. And are 5 of each being recommended, or less than 5 for either?

On traits - yes, I'm researching those - on dagger, I have all but protection that's currently researching (got nirnorn recently).

So, I have Hundig's and Spriggan's mentioned above - and other dropped sets suggest I'd need to look into. Yeesh.

I'm carrying around dozens of dropped sets, because 'they might be good', including I think parts of over a dozen for medium dps.

can’t go wrong Hundings Spriggans to start. Main hand Beserker nirnhoned, off hand crusher sharp is still very viable as a start. Back bar nirnhoned befouled or something.

What are Berserker, crusher and befouled referring to?

Some said to use trait infused, others nirhorned.

Look. Craft hundings. Farm or get Spriggan’s jewelry. Run that lil quest with a friend who doesn’t need the dagger (scarab sting). Run one dagger nirnhoned (mainhand) other dagger sharp (might be easier to craft 2 hundings daggers tho). Unfathomable is a cheap set you could run as a start. Hundings Unfathomable was my first 5 and 5 setup. Loved the birds. Just getting to cp 160. ANY 2 5 piece sets will be a noticeable improvement.

I'm not sure why you put 'look' in front - for what it's worth, this is for around cp250, not on the way to cp160.

I'll consider the info - the birds do seem like a nice thing.

Sorry if that sounded rude. It’s just how I talk lol. Good luck with the gearing up!

Thanks for the help. As I'm reading it, it doesn't matter which five pieces of Bunding's I craft...

I have two sets of gear for my Bosmer Stamblade, both in bow/DW builds.

One is for sneaking, at the cost of being weaker when he is forced into combat. That features Night's Silence (since I refuse to make him a vampire) and Night Terror gear. He also spends skill slots on Cloak, Concealed Weapon, and Retreating Maneuvers, none of which are much use in combat.

The other is for more serious combat. That's currently Spriggan's, Briarheart, and a monster set. Since neither Kragh's nor Selene's seems to work at bow range, I'm using Sellestrix instead right now, and I'm happier with it.

One thing: Briarheart is pretty hard to farm, in that it's a dropped set from Wrothgar and Wrothgar doesn't have dolmens to reliably give jewelry.
