why do mag sorc prefer ilambris over skoria in pve

by looking at the damage, skoria does more damage per second and won't have the problem where enemies run away from their original place, also dot proc is fairly easy, but seems ilambris is preferred? Is it because of the 1 set bonus max magicka increase?

I know zaan is even stronger but you have to get very close to enemies as a trade off.

Ilambris is nice cause sorcs have both fire and lightning damage and can proc both of the meteor shower.

And since every shower has its own cooldown the uptime is really high. You can have both showers active at the same time.

Ilambris is best for sorcs due to both types of damage. You can run Liquid Lightning and Blockade of Fire if you have a fire backbar. Sorcs also have a bonus to shock damage, and as far as I know, Ilambris is the only magicka monster set that deals lightning damage.

Dont tell anyone but you might be best off running 2 slimecraw in dungeons and most raid environments for that 100% minor berserk uptime flat 8% damage increase.
Most healers dont even know what combat prayer is, and if they do know it in 99% of the cases they cant have a high enough uptime to outperform slimecraw over any proc damage monster set.

But if you like the flashy effects from monster sets (or if you happen to be in an environment with competent healers) illambris is the way to go on sorc like many others already mentioned.

Aside from the reasons already listed on this thread:

I love the noise the fire meteor storm has in dungeons: "thit thit thit" with every meteor that hits.

Quoted for truth. But you will never hear YouTube theory-crafters say this because they all live in a fairy la-la land where their pocket healer throws down Combat Prayer 24/7 and tosses them orbs, too! The only time pugging 4-man dungeons that I *ever* see buffs like Elemental Drain and Minor Berserk is when I provide them myself!

I agree with you but who expects that from a PUG? If I do a guild run there's almost always great uptime on combat prayer, so slimecraw is reduntant and useless.

In a bad raid environment, it could be the case except for NBs. But all raids and all healers should strive to do their job reasonably well.

On the flipside of that, as a healer main, I rarely see PuG DDs who bother to either make use of those expensive orbs, step in my carefully placed Olorime proc, or stay in my LoS long enough for me to hit them with my CbP (squirrely magsorcs and Stamblades who like to test the limits of "ranged" abilities and use the healer to LoS the boss). I spend an inordinately large amount of time reminding them to "Stop neglecting my balls! Grab them! I have one heal that can reach behind me and I'm not going to neglect the tank to turn around and buff/heal your sorry butt".

After lots of those scenarios, I start saving my resources for other stuff.

I know zaan is even stronger but you have to get very close to enemies as a trade off.

I get more substantially more dps from llambris than skoria. If I switch at some point from crushing to elemental weapon that may change but I am doing interrupt utility role at the moment and, there is less than 1 crushing per rotation when not interrupting so I don't think it would be an overall win to switch.

In the group I run with Zaan, Ilambris, and Skoria have been batted around variously by sorcs and mNB's depending on the content. Now that it is mentioned, slimeclaw might be the best option in vAS where the healers have little opportunity for combat prayer. In most raids I belive Zaan is most preferred by most players though I always stick with Ilambris because, being a sorc, I am always whatever utility dps role exists in that given trial and so am usually not close to a boss kiting, doing a back room, or what not. I should probably think harder about the slimeclaw thing myself as I am not in stack probably half the time at least.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

ok that's what I heard from most people, though i'm a bit confused because when i do the calculation below, it seems to show otherwise.

    Ilambris:
1 item: Adds 12-1096 Maximum Magicka
2 items: When you deal Flame or Shock Damage, you have a 10% chance to summon a meteor shower of that damage type that deals 13-1170 Damage to all enemies within 4 meters every 1 second for 5 seconds. Each effect can occur once every 8 seconds.

    Skoria:
1 item: Adds 14-1206 Maximum Health
2 items: When you deal damage with a damage over time effect, you have a 8% chance to summon a meteor that deals 104-9000 Flame damage to the target and 46-4000 Flame damage to all other enemies within 5 meters. This effect can occur once every 5 seconds.

so if we just look at the second piece bonus, lets assume they proc whenever they can, ilambris will do
    1170x2x5/8= 1462.5 damage per second.

    Skoria
    9000/5=1800 damage per second,

I know sorc can do 5% more shock damage, but even with that added on it's 1499 damage per second which is still significantly lower than skoria's 1800, also that skoria seems to proc easier than ilambris and doesn't get wasted when enemies walk out of the aoe.

So maybe it's because of the 1 item difference? but is 1096 max magicka going to change that much dps by itself? In addition, to me that extra health from skoria is also not bad for keeping a glass cannon more or less harder to kill.

    Thoughts?

What raids?! Healers in the raids I go in would be Guild Kicked for not running combat prayer. it's most of our main group heal. Idk what players you talk about. Ones from Finder?

Ilambris is for handling mobs because it hits everything in the area of effect for the amount stated. Skoria only hits on target for that max dmg, then a halved amount of splash dmg to surrounding enemies, so it works out a little differently. Skoria may work better for single target.

The weaker the sorcerer's DPS, the better a proc set compares to Slimecraw.

As for Combat Prayer -- I'm the kind of PUG healer who always wears SPC, always runs Elemental Drain, always throws shards (on a templar) and usually throws orbs (on other classes) in the general direction of the boss, etc. ... and I have rarely run Combat Prayer. Now that nightblades are getting rarer, however, I'm starting to use it more, at least in high-DPS groups. (Once we're in a PUG, I like to change my build as little as possible. E.g., I wear Worm Cult, and I don't swap it for something else if I'm surrounded by werewolves.)

So very True . I made a dungeon build that dropped my usual orbs and combat prayer. Instead i
added ele blockade on destro and the nearly useless ward/heal ally on restro. At least that way i heal the sniping ranged dd who always stands behind me with healing ward. And i can keep the adds they ignore while boss sniping both off balance, and off me!
The 8% damage buff forgone by dropping CP is often about the same as the 8% dps done by that DD who hasn't died again because i supplied their shield while they used me to LOS the boss.
