Why is the maintenance window six hours?

My main problem with the timing is, they catter for US players so much, I feel really as a second class citizen. Nearly all US can participate in the yearly big rewards, they have less server issues, they have less prime time maintanance. I remember when EU got so much trouble during an event they had to extend it, but offcourse NA got the extension aswell, so for them it was a total win situation.

But we have trump, so you win. Don't take it personally - they have to go by the numbers.

I guess true. But european players including russians as a sever are that smaller, or less monatizable? I don't know I know compared what I earn I spend relatively much on ESO, and yeah... it feels bad sometimes. Its my personal feeling and I like myself so I try to make change which benefits me.

From my experience as IT-engineer - when you install big patch or something, you plan 1-2 hours to prepare, 2 hours to install, and then 2-3 hours to restore from backup if patch doesn't work well, so probably since server is not up after 4 hours, they failed at applying group finder patch and now they rollback server to previous configuration :p

Do your preparation while the servers are up. Restoring a backup should not be the norm, actually taking up those house, but the exception for a disaster. So, you don't get to include prep+restore in the normal time it's down.

Yes, it's exception for the disaster, but you still add rollback time in overall maintenance time and simply end works earlier if everything ok. Just now they applied patch and let users in, since ton of people can't login, probably soon there will be rollback. Or those unlucky users will be free of ESO this evening until they will try to fix in the night

Well seeing how Fallout 76 when it's patched you end up downloading the entire game for a small patch, and I believe the big patches for ESO is almost the same, I take it to fix on little code on their servers they might have to download the entire thing or at least huge amounts of data. So maybe it takes time for the data to upload and install?

I don't have a clue, just guessing from what I see.

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

Seems excessive for reasonably designed servers. I can't remember other MMO's above 3 hours off the top of my head - maybe there are some.

Reasonably designed servers, that's the joke.

The real question is: Why is it in on Saturday and in the middle of the day and not at night?

It was at night. Somewhere in the world.

So, do you think that having done a normal length maintenance today, Saturday, they just might have used the obvious opportunity to sort out whatever needs fixing on the usual Monday, we might possibly be maintenance-free this coming week?

    No, I didn't think so :|

Especially since they managed to screw up in new exciting ways thanks to that maintenance - a maintenance which, according to what I'm reading on the forums, didn't even fix the very reason it was performed to begin with.

You people are funny. What has ZOS ever done that makes you think anything they do is about the player base?

I know there are palyers with worse situation (no Asian/Oceanian server etc), but is doesn't help my second class feeling.

I'm not sure on the timing for Europe, but I know being in CST US time, I'm going to miss out on one of the days in this event because it resets at 1 AM, and that last day it ends at 10 AM. I can't reasonably get up/stay up and do that last day without being a zombie tomorrow at work.

Gosh, what are you complaining about? The servers were down for maintenance for something over 5 hours, then I haven't been able to log on to the EU server since maintenance. They've been up for about 4 hours now, except you can't log in. it takes time for them to 'fix' things and do a really good job you know. :-p
