Weekend maintenance now?

As an Aussie who has played since Beta I'm used to being arse-r*ped with maintenance times.

I wandered away for a week or two, but decided I might jump back in ....

"Hi everyone,

As part of our efforts to address the current Dungeon Finder issue, we will be performing a maintenance on all ESO servers tomorrow morning.

The PC/Mac NA and EU servers will be offline starting at 4am EST. This will be the incremental patch that was originally scheduled for Monday.

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 NA and EU servers will be offline starting at 6am EST. We estimate all servers to be back online around 10am EST.

So they have an event to increase one of the game's features, it works and people start using the dungeon finder a ton, then it breaks so horribly that they have to have an unscheduled maintenance.

It’s 4pm - 10pm my time so believe me it’s annoying as heck. But to be fair we are on NA servers and the majority of their clients base is in the US so when exactly would they they do it? It must be done and if a segment of the population is going to be inconvenienced, it’ll be this side of the world. I just wonder why they couldn’t fix group finder prior to this? It’s been an issue for years. And will they also fix BGs queue? And how come they all of a sudden have a fix now and on the weekend?

You would figure, with the billions of dollars these scam crates are producing, that Zeni would have a backup server to keep us up and running 24/7.

Server down = less cam boxes sold.

I'm assuming all the drunk playboys come home at 4am from the bars then log in and spend their last part of their paycheck on scam boxes.

It's not like dungeon finder has been broken for years.
It's not like this exact same event last year was just as *** because of the broken group finder.
It's not like players warned them that if they don't prepare anything for this year's event, it would break again.

My bet is that this maintenance isn't gonna fix anything, we're getting used to their "patchs". The most probable outcome of this patch is that steam users won't be able to play at all today, like everytime they try to fix something...

There's an event going on now and everyone's using GF.

I didn't notice it myself until I saw a snippet in guild chat that went something like "....if you're a tank or healer, you instajoin".

And it was true.

Anyway I gather the problem stems from too many people using it. Too many people tried to use the thing that they instituted for the purpose of getting more people to use the thing. That's called shooting yourself in the foot, biting off more than you can chew.

As I said in the OP, I just ducked back in to play again after a few weeks off and was surprised at maintenance on a weekend.

It looks like a weird dumpster fire ATM so I should probably just go away again.

There is a saying in PVP. "Zeni can't fix nothing so we should fix it our self. Spread out into small groups to reduce the lag".

So, I think it is time for me to say, "Don't use the group finder tool all at once". I recommend if your name starts with:

A = que at 1 am
B = que at 2 am
C = que at 3 am

I think you get the hint.

I wish my coffee pot would hurry up. I just woke. No Eso and No coffee is not a good start of a Saturday morning!

You know, I'm starting to get royally sick of maintenance. Especially these ungodly long ones that have absolutely nothing to do with parts of the game I play.

And that never seem to fix anything.

Nothing beats those 45 minute fights where you burn all 6 of your cf ballistas on the same 5 square feet inside the door. Lag be damned.

Again though, this has been a well documented issue for at least a year maybe two. And the issue isn’t even that you instajoin as a tank or healer, it’s that it jsut flat out doesn’t work, kicks you back to ready check multiple times, gets stuck at ready check, says forming group then ready check again etc.

The real question is why they even need to take the servers down?
Any programmer worth their salt would design these processes so that they are independent of each other & therefore can be stopped, updated, and then restarted separately from each other, & just issue a message to those affected that x is not available at present!

But no-one hires programmers anymore, only artists!

Is it bad that when I first saw the servers were down I genuinely forgot it was Saturday and didn't think anything of it? (In my defence I've had a weird week.)

It's totally ruined my plans of getting a dungeon done before my parents come to visit, but if it reduces the waiting time afterwards I guess it'll be worth it. I got lucky yesterday - after giving up on a pre-made group getting in I managed to get into a random group after "only" 25 minutes queued as a healer.

If it actually fixes the dungeon finder permanently (or at least until the next major update) it would be even better.

Yea. Just to add my personal experience, this time around, the "kick" came in the form of a message that read "you have been [paraphrasing: denied] from joining", over and over. However the wording went it made it sound like the group starter looked at my name and didn't want to me to join, which of course is ridiculous. (since I'm AWESOME!)

It did that at first, and then it was fine. About 20 minutes of that nonsense, then all of friday I was tanking happily. * shrug *

Seems likely this is a thing that will never be actually and fully fixed.

It's also the EU mega-server, and it's 10am to 3pm Central European Time, so the whole day lost.

Having just re-subbed yesterday and the wife out all day, giving me time to play without distraction, I'm slightly peeved.

From time to time perhaps EU players could also be given a break ? Or is our money of less value ?
