Is this announcement of changing racial passives just a way to make more money?

They make an annoucement about revamping racial passives then they put race change tokens "on sale" and regardless if they make all races vanilla or they create new BIS races by jacking the passives around its going to cause allot of people to want to change their character races...and I seriously doubt they are going to give everyone free race changes on all their characters...maybe its just me but I feel like we are getting played.

I doubt that they are trying to steer people towards the tokens. They really don't seem all that concerned about whether people follow the FotM, or whether people spend money to do it. I would imagine that most players don't care.

"I’m guessing many of you will be interested to know more about the racial balance changes. While we aren’t ready to share specific details yet, here’s a peek at the goals driving the team’s effort:

--When selecting a race, players should have multiple effective options for any given gameplay role.
--The combat power provided by each race should be more equalized.
--Players should feel a stronger sense of power progression through racial passives as they level up.
--The unique feeling and flavor each race provides should be retained and enhanced where possible, and remain faithful to established lore."

I generally stick to orcs, regardless of the meta. I mean, orcs do have a monopoly on all the sexy, so they're going to perform well just about anywhere, ya know?

I understand where you're coming from, though. And if you want to squeeze every last digit out of those numbers, yeah, maybe that means switching or re-creating a character when the meta changes. That's kinda why I don't follow it. I know the game is going to change. A lot. Instead of the MOST efficient tactics available, I'll stick to tactics that are generally sufficient for my needs.

Sure, I won't be wowing everyone with my DPS parses. But I'll get by. *shrug* Do most of the playerbase follow the meta? Or are most players just learning or doing whatever suits them? That'll answer your question.

    Yes.

But its not limited to race tokens.

Racial changes are part of "horizontal progression" which is ZOS's method for keeping players interested in ESO once they get done with all the leveling post-One-Tamriel. ZOS periodically changes the meta so that meta-chasers will grind amd regrind characters and gear in order to be meta. This keeps players playing ESO longer that, they otherwise would if they were satisfied with their builds, got bored and left.

So even if ZOS doesn't charge for race change tokens or the Any Race, Any Alliance upgrade, this is still part of changing the meta to force players to regrind characters, classes, and gear.

I think we should give it time to see what happens. Some of the races are over-performing, argonian specifically. I agree that they won’t hand out free race change tokens but a sale is better than nothing at all right? Hopefully they buff weak races in line with meta races but only time will tell

Kind of wish people would get off the argonian OP bandwagon. They’re strong in specific situations. But I’ve got 7 toons, 6 PvP focused and 1 PvE at this time, and it makes sense for only one fo them to be argonian. If argonian was truly OP then I’d be inclined to make at least half of them argonian and that’s not the case at all. You also don’t see argonians dominating in PvP or PvE. If they’re really good for a specific role that’s fine.

As for race change tokens with the update, I do think ZOS should offer a free race change period of time. But I also think that essentially races will stay the same you’ll jsut be allowed to choose morphs for each race that will give it stats suitable for each role so race changes may actually matter less. I just hope they keep the unique passive available like orc speed and melee damage, argonian potion passive, bosmer stealth damage etc.

No, but it does speak to what I have stated many times before, that Zos does not think through changes they made. It is why we get such heavy handed changes so often.

While I enjoy this game I am tired of the incompetence of the management of this game.

Do you guys really think zos is going to not drop the ball on this? This just means redguards, argonians, possibly high elves and dark elves are going to get nerfed.
Combat management team have the combine brain capacity of a jelly fish. Start saving up crowns guys because next update we will all need to race change a bunch of our classes.

Other games have changed their racial passives. It's yet another thing that MMOs tweak sometimes.

If you're that dedicated to chasing meta, there's always going to be something to make you feel "grrr, I'm being forced to . . ."

Me, I pick races by theme & appearance. I'm usually not sure what the passives even are.

Heh, yah. I don't ever even look at them. I have an idea for a girl - she tells me her name, race, etc. That's where I go. I don't think I've ever even bothered to read the racials. *shrug*

This is a game I play for fun. Fun is not (for me) in messing with meta.

Me, I pick races by theme & appearance. I'm usually not sure what the passives even are.

This might very well be but it gets rather annoying if they make sweeping changes which undermine what a character is built to do. In this vein I would like to point out the way in which Khajiit crit bonus at one time applied to 'weapons' which in the first iteration of the game meant Staffs, Sword and Shield, Dual Wield, Bow, 2hander. After the year one changes to what the definition of 'weapons' meant, this changed and it meant that the Khajiit wizard took a MAJOR hit. I knew people who quit the game over that. The Khajiit mage was never meta but it was in a better place before this change hit, and it fundamentally wrecked a character style for the players who played that way. This is the problem that ZoS needs to be careful with when changing and adjusting races. As I've said for years Race is way too damn important. I like the suggestion by some players that alternate 'styles' of races would be available so people could have their cake and eat it too.

i think the vast majority of the playerbase doesnt care for the passives (or even know they exist) they just go for the looks.

the tiny amount of players who does, well if alcast tells them to buy a racechanger, they will do it.

"Let hope some metard stumbles over the need of a new race" doesnt come off as a good sales argument.

they should just keep racial bonuses e.g argonian swim speed/nord frost resistance/maybe add khajiit better odds for stealing, orc ugliness, thnigs like that xD, rest can be customized to your needs.
while you're at it fix vampires /wolves and all other useless passives in different world/guild trees
also don't forget to revmp CP system to seperate damage from heals and tankiness.
if you still got time left might aswell get rid of soem bug we've been having for ages, and replace hamsters that run servers, they must be gettin' warm again cause of global warming.

Many Races currently deserve better passives as they are thrown away due to this reason.

Racial balance looks promising if they are able to create successfully diversity (in terms of DPS, Resources and Defense) between races.

Currently many races fail (ignored by users to passives) to play as Stam or Magicka, this shall be first problem to solve.

I honestly expected them to just nerf health and mitigation and maybe ease the sustain nerfs a bit(then you'd see nords everywhere you looked, and see how us argonian felt with clones everywhere) but maybe they'll do something a bit more involved. Just have to wait and see
