Lost in Gloam - steal trinket from Drados

It is the quest where you talk with a crow from main quest line in CWC. It is part of what will give access to crow's dailies later on.

I try to steal trinket from that chest and every time I am caught. Doesn't matter how I hide/sneak, use invis pots and cloak before interacting with chest. They see me and I am caught. Is this a bug or on purpose as I can not even force my way to steal trinket and just run.

If you have the Persuasive Will perk from the Mages Guild line, you can just ask Constable Drados for the trinket.

I wanted to try to steal this time instead of talking with constable. Is it possible at all? It looks like that person sitting at table sees me even when I am invis from pots.

edit:

Even gone so far as killed that book reading NPC and still can't take item in chest.

The next character I have queued up to run through the CWC main quest is a Khajiit, but I may go with a Breton or an Altmer as they lack the stealth perks.

I know exactly what you're talking about because I had the same problem. I managed somehow, and I think I distracted the person or something... can't remember. I did something that drew them away or whatever. Maybe I just got lucky though. It is possible though, I promise.
