What do you do when you just don't have the fire anymore?

I have felt the itch to play after basically not playing for 5 months. But coming back, I just feel empty. I log in and hit a DPS dummy, watching my DPS be almost 5K lower from 5 months ago on my stamblade. Now, there are things I need to change, but I just don't think I have the drive. All I usually did before I even left was test DPS over and over and over even when I was tops in the guild. I don't run dungeons, because I play one character, I don't need anything. I don't make new characters because I don't usually play alts in past mmos... but I DO want a stamden, but I do not want the work. I guess I am burnt out? What do you guys do when that happens?

I'm at a point where wonder if I should stop for good. I have a huge back log I am working through . So did you uninstall or just wait for the itch to become insatiable?

If u want a stamden. Wait 'till the next double XP event. Create the char and start leveling then. That is what I did I got the stamden to lvl 46 in one event. B)

I'm sure somebody who COMPLETELY lost interest in this game, will not read the forums.
Now to get to your problem. After being away from the game for 5 months it should be obvious, that you won't be at the same DPS you were, when you had continues "training". So depending on your own preferences you might try to get back to your former glory (should be doable, muscle memory is there for a reason) or you move on to a different game (or hobby).

You're burnt out. Take a break, find another hobby, and soon enough you'll crave logging back in, only to get immediately discouraged and log back out, unsatisfied.

People always act like burning out is a temporary state of mind. It's not. Not always.

Try helping other people, ingame or out. That tends to motivate better than anything else when in this mindset, and makes you feel like there's a goal in the game again. Happiness and self satisfaction comes from giving, and I blame popular media for trivializing that lesson, and making it corny.

It's true. Help a rando out in zone. Offer advice on matters you're reasonably secure in your knowledge of. Run a newbie through a dungeon.

Find someone who you like being around. Don't be too picky, just someone who doesn't take you for granted, or maybe someone who does. A person, a group, a guild, someone who enjoys the little things in the game that you've burnt out on, and enrich their experience in it. If you help them enjoy it, you'll learn how to enjoy it again too.

EDIT: And I don't mean be an emotional vampire. Find someone you genuinely want to help enjoy themselves.

I don't play DPS. It's less number crunching to play a healer or one of my various tanks instead. If I am tired of the game, I continue to log in only for basic writs and collecting hireling mail, but I play Dota 2 instead. I tend to take several month long breaks from a game I have gotten worn out on and switch between two or three in rotation.

Since you want a stamden, you can create one and take it easy, so it won't feel like 'work': level them by doing quests in an area you haven't yet explored, or in an new activity. If you haven't really played for the past 5 months, there'll be lots of new things to check out. It's hard sometimes to reconnect with something--I've taken breaks from the game, and coming back can feel daunting at first, but I think if you start running some content, you'll get back to the rhythm of things. Usually when I overplay a certain aspect and feel like burning out, I do something different (for me it's usually housing; I focus too much on a project and can get fed up sometimes, so then I take a break till the next housing project, and in the meantime, do routine things like writs and pledges, work on an achievement, some PvP...). The game offers so much, but sometimes we get tunnel vision and overly focus on something to the point it gets a little boring, we just have to remember to check out all the other alternatives.

you need to forget your stale repetitive pve and became a true warrior. pvp its a different situations and different enemies all the time but not in this game. probably its better to switch to another one.

Just to clarify, the Clockwork Celebration does not have a double XP bonus tied to it. Just double rewards on the following:
Double items harvested from crafting nodes
Including Jewelry seams, but does not include nodes spawned from Survey Reports and Fishing Holes
Double the reward boxes from completing Daily Quests
    Double the drops from bosses
Including World Bosses, Delve Bosses, Trials Bosses, and Quest Bosses

December's New Life Festival is the next event on the calendar that traditionally has a double XP bonus attached to it.

Unless changed in the official announcement, pencil in Thursday, December 13 for the start date.

Prior to New Life there will be the Undaunted Celebration, with event-specific reward boxes for a daily dungeon completion (random or pre-formed, normal or veteran) You may find more value in that event to observe other play styles and ask how people are maximizing their damage with other classes, races, and builds. Then by the time New Life starts you'll be a little more certain what you want your second character to aim for.

Actually there is no double XP for the Clockwork City event, it's just double drops from nodes and bosses and whatnot. The next double XP event will be the New Life holiday festival, I think, which happens at the end of the year.

I almost quit when my friends stopped logging in. Made some new ones because they kept whispering me and wouldnt leave me alone. They're an awesome bunch. They'll probably stop logging in before I do. It's a vicious cycle and it's something I dread. Keep going soldier, just keep going.

    Make stamden.
    Collect a bunch of skyshards.
Buy XP potions/scrolls or collect from daily rewards.
Pay someone to let you lie dead on the floor while they do Skyreach. (Levels Fighter's Guild nicely as well.)
    Profit.

Its a video game not your career. There shouldnt have to be a drive to play the game. There probably isnt a drive or having to force yourself to watch a movie or go out with friends. Its just something you want to do and do it. This is casual entertainment nothing more.

I start fishing, while chatting in guild. Help out a new guildie get through a dungeon. Maybe start a new char but this time taking things slowly and going through the quests. If you have eso plus, you can start your new char at one of the dlc, maybe just wander off.

Its not all about dps numbers and fears and whatnot. It's about new experiences. Sometimes it's not about what's at the end of the rainbow, it's about enjoying it. /shrug

I cycle through many games. I've been playing games in general long enough to know that the reality is you won't enjoy it forever. so be comfortable switching between other games. with the huge amount of f2p titles out there, there's plenty to try out, even if you only play it for a week or two. and you may surprise yourself.

As an example, I never thought I'd be interested in Maple story 2, but I ended up getting into it pretty well, a surprise for me. but try out other games, and don't be dissapointed if they are only temporary fixations.

I honestly haven't had a game pull me in like they used to in years. I think my last big obsession was LotRO (vamilla-MoM days), and BC Wow. everything since then has been mostly casual. I have dozens of games I cycle through for a bit at a time.

ESO revolves around duplication, and it set up for alts. If you don't like alts, there is a pretty sizeable limit on playability in the game unless you run PvP.
