Vanishing Legacy, what’s it all about…

We would like to describe ourselves as “a mature gamers guild” as one of our main rules is our age limit for new members. If you want to join “Vanishing Legacy” you have to be at least 21 years old and generally be considered as mature by yourself as well as others. By mature we mean relaxed and laid back, yet serious when required, friendly and willing to help others and above all tolerant and willing to compromise when needed. Our most important rule however is that “Real Life comes first”, as we are here to enjoy our time in game and we understand that there are other more pressing things such as families and/or work.

Our goal is to structure our leadership in such a way to reflect above requirements and give freedom to our members to fully enjoy their time spent in game and not to worry about the meaningless rules and boundaries other guilds usually impose on their members. We will tend to involve all our members in decision making as much as possible, but some core decisions sometimes will be made by the Officers/Guild leaders themselves.

We consider ourselves a casual guild and above all would like to keep a friendly, family like atmosphere within the guild. However, casual does not mean disorganized, when it comes to guild group activities we can be and always strive to be highly organized and disciplined, but will still try to enjoy our gaming and not have it become a second job.

We prefer and highly encourage guild group play, but we understand that our members can’t take part in every group event. We encourage our members to use both guild voice comms (even if only for listening) and guild forum as much as possible, so even when you are soloing you will feel you are part of the guild.

We strive to be drama free, but from our experience we know that unfortunately sometimes drama is unavoidable. However, when it does occur, we will try to resolve it swiftly and fairly by discussing matters with all sides involved. We will try to do this in a transparent manner and not hide anything from our members. We are adults and we will treat you as one.

So, if you are looking for a new friends and mature gaming atmosphere please go to our Recruitment and submit your application. Do remember that although we love our gaming, in “VaLe” real life comes first.

Hi there. I'm not sure if you guys want any feedback, but I thought I should let you know that I find your application form very off-putting. I was about to apply and now I won't be.

I'm just looking for somewhere to enjoy some group activities, with a laid back mentality.

Speaking as an old fart, with negligible tolerance of being made to jump through hoops just to play a game, I found questions such as "Why VL and not some other guild?" and "Why do you think you will be a good fit for VL?" to be more the kind of thing to expect from a job interview.

This is a game, not a job application, and I have no intention of treating it as such. Apparently, I wouldn't be a good fit.

Sorry guys, just calling it as I see it. Good luck with your guild.

On the up side, here's a free bump!

Thanks for the comments Xetim. The form is quite lengthy, but as long-time MMO players we have all found that asking a few detailed questions gets the person to reveal a little about themselves and allows us to make a good judgement as to whether they would be a good fit for the guild and vice-versa. If a few good applicants are put off by that then it's an unfortunate but worthwhile side-effect of the process which has allowed us to reject a LOT of REALLY REALLY BAD applicants over the years ;)

Back when I joined the guild the fact that they wanted to know about me was one of the big reasons I picked this guild over any other; it allows a guild to weed out undesirable applicants. My thinking about it is that, generally (you may be an exception ), if someone can't be bothered to answer a few questions then they probably won't be very bothered when it comes down to e.g. preparing themselves for a raid.

edit for clarity: If anybody else thinks the form looks lengthy then bear this in mind: we don't expect an essay answer to each question! A perfectly reasonable answer which we would like to see to the "why do you think you would be a good fit?" question would be something like "Because I am a mature, casual player and share your philosophy of how to play the game".

Thanks for taking the time to reply Prawn. :-)
I think I understand where you're coming from, it's probably just the grumpy old git in me that it doesn't sit well with on general principles! ;-)

I'll probably reconsider... in the mean time, I've got some wandering about Stonefalls to do :-)

    cheers!

Could I ask a few questions for clarification then please? The first thing I'm presented with on the application page are a few rules which I've not come across before in other guilds:

    1) Must use voice comms. When would that be? Just for group content or am I expected to be on all the time?
    2) Group play takes precedence over solo play. So if I'm doing some crafting or questing and someone demands I join them for a dungeon run, I have to drop what I'm doing?
    3) Guarantee contribution to the guild. What form does this contribution make other than taking part in mutually beneficial group activities?

    Thanks very much.

    1) It would be great if you could use it as often as possible, but its mandatory only for guild events/group runs
    2) nope, no one will command you what and when to do, its all up to you
    3) We expect from our member to contribute to the guild any way they can its not only one way street.

    Regards
    Baine
