Wait... does this mean that they actually named these things xxx-lizard????

I am without words. I thought players had been mocking them for how they looked but now I see the names are just...... That's lazy. There's simply no other way to put it.

They took a wee little effort to call Verminous Fabricants something other than Robot Dinosaurs. But here it's clear they didn't even bother to try....

LoL, i also thought that it's just a mounts.
Seems they didn't change name, because they did this as important part of the lore, with this book about Hist copies creatures/features from other races and spicies.
For me it's a little bit weird, remind me of the Overmind(Hist) and zergs from StarCraft. In next chapter BroodHistWar, Hist will copy Almalexia and she will become Queen of Blades Almalexia-lizard. And will annihilate other races. And when they will make ESO2 and ruin their franchise =)

P.S. Idea for next Hists copy.

    Looks more like

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

For some strange reason, the Bear Lizard is getting as much nerd rage as the Oblivion Horse armor.

Maybe it was named by Germans?

    FlowchartAnimals7.jpg?h=9999&quality=100&w=993

(No disrespect - German is a great language for many reasons, and this chart is just one of them.)

English common names also tend to be descriptive, including comparing animals to other animals (usually ones more familiar to the namers):
    Sea lion,
    sheep dog,
    woodpecker,
    anteater,
naked mole rat (which is neither a mole or a rat),
    killer whale,
sloth (the word - meaning lazy - predates the animals naming in English),
    polar bear,
    bee-eater,
    water buffalo,
    spider monkey,
    prairie dog (not a dog),
    goblin shark,
    cat fish,
    dog fish,
    parrot fish,
    tiger shark,
    blue whale,
great white shark (which is more grey, but is great),
    whale shark,
    mountain lion,
    kangeroo rat...

And a special mention to one I'd never heard of before but which is now a new favourite: the bare-faced go-away bird: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bare-faced_go-away-bird

If you start digging into the etymology of animals names I suspect the majority are descriptive to some degree or another. So while the bear lizard does look jarring in a fantasy setting (especially one with detailed lore) it's not an unusual or exceptionally lazy way to name an animal.

And if you think that's bad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_redundant_place_names
