Why does my lvl8 templar out damage my buddies cp254 templar

Hi everyone this is my first post ever. My best friend and I play eso every day. He thinks his character is broken because I started playing my lvl 8 wood elf templar with 274 cp from my main. Given he is a nord and 20-ish cp lower than me there is no reason I should be able to out damage him. I have 29k magicka and I only have 4 attribute points in magika. He has 34 attribute points in it. I can do 20k damage with my solar flare where he is lucky to get 10k with his. He even put cp in the exact same stats that I have. Granted i have a few more cp, that shouldn't make that big a difference. Can somebody please explain this to me. Does race choice make that big a difference? Thank you for your time

Battle level allows some weird stuffs like level 20 with good build beating max CP with good build especially the said lowbie has CP on due to it being alt. So yeah. Battle level. Lol. On PvE, people cried a lot about content being unfair because max level mobs were killing their level 10s... so yeah. Now you have this mess.

Well ty everybody. His build is the exact same as mine. We both have magica enchantments I have blue green armor on, he has all purple. If we get weaker as we level then why lvl up? Lol all of you have been extremely helpful. I guess it is the scaling. I'm starting to wonder if there is also scaling for cp too... I'm happy we have such a good helpful community and again ty for all your input and insight

Until you are CP300, each point you spend in the red/green/blue tree provides a small bonus to the associated resources.

Simple... You are getting 2 boosts: the bolster everyone gets when under CP160 and the low-level player boost that depends on your level. That 2nd one is highest at level 1 and goes down 3% per level until it drops off at level 34.

That 2nd one is a boost to all damage and damage mitigation and it was done to give true new players with no CP a needed extra oomph when they went to level scaling with One Tamriel. You combine that with the CP of alts and those twinks become godly.

I'm sure not very many people remember that one because it was only visible on your character stats in the PTS when One Tamriel was being tested and only during the first couple of weeks of testing. But it's still there as a hidden buff.

I have max CP so you can imagine how OP'd my lowbee alts can be if I do allocate CP for them :)

A true CP810 with all the better relevant skills unlocked and morphed and good gear is still at the top of the heap.

The leveling anomaly is created by using the new player boosts AND also your account-wide CP. If you didn't use those CP points you have you would be a lot closer to your friend and he may even be better than you, although...

... t's really that 2nd, hidden noobie boost I explained above that sort of screws up the leveling at least until you get to your high 20s or low 30s. It's an extremely generous diminishing boost that simply by its diminishing nature is kind of de-leveling you while you level.

It's a kludge designed to let brand new players get the hang of things and survive while they're learning the game and have little idea which skills to use and morph. For anyone that isn't a true noob, like you with your CP, it's OP'd as all hell.

Suggest you both look at and compare indicated Spell Damage and Spell Crit in your character stats. As others have posted your low level character gets some massive boosts at low level. As you level up the stats will drop.

When leveling up new char, this time i saw "call-to-group" status or similar in dungeons which is crazy boost (+25% all damage, +50% health). I crafted new gear every 6 levels (hundings+clever alchemist) and steamrolled dungeons at lvl40 doing both full-scale tanking (gathering and rooting mobs, taunt, maim, horn) and melting everything. I don't remember such thing in May when i was leveling previous alt.. so now low-levels literally rock, especially in dungeons.

Your friends build is probably not good. You do get buffed as a low level. More accurately, you get weaker the more you level if you don't keep up with your armor and passives.

Here's an amusing factoid: A purple level 8 weapon on a level 8 character has the same stats as a gold end-game weapon. It drops off quickly, however, once you turn level 9 and beyond. You're also really tanky, although I don't have numbers to back that up, just from memory.

Yes, the game artificially boosts you to what it figures you might be at CP160 until you reach CP160. Then the buffs are lifted and you are on your own. With your friend's character a CP254, his build relies totally on his own choices. So if you are stronger it may mean that his build is perhaps a bit weaker than 'average'.

It is not a perfect system but it is designed to allow low and high level players to join up for the same content - by artificially buffing characters below CP160.

One side effect of the system is that the artificial buffs make it hard to evaluate how your build is coming along until you break CP160.

This is pretty much it. I have seen some players with some pretty bad builds.
