How did you decide to name your first character?

I had no idea what I was doing when I first got ESO. It was my first MMO so I just named my character what I usually do but since it was taken I just added a 'z' at the end. Absolutely hate the name for the character, but it's my main character who I've been through a lot with so I ignore it, and it's an awful Bosmer name.
New characters I go with whatever I like at the time, but with Orcs, Khajiit and Argonian's I try to keep it more lore friendly(ish).
    PC/NA
Moved onto BDO and GW2 Skyrim, ATS/ETS2, ACNH and the overall goodness of single player games

    RIP to the following:
(DC) Tharbûrz gro-Glumgrog - Orsimer -Stamden (lvl 50)
(AD) Vukz - Bosmer - Stamblade (lvl 50)

I like making names that are relatively lore-friendly. My first/main character is an Altmer called 'Ceremo Highfort'.

'Ceremo' just popped into my head when I was trying to think of an Altmeri sounding name, and then I decided he needed a grandiose sounding surname even though it's rare for Altmer to have one. I was inspired by the Daggerfall naming section on UESP and ended up with 'Highfort'. I consider that to be the Tamrielic translation, unfortunately I can't find an in-game source of what the Altmer word for 'fort' is so I don't know what it is in his native language.

My solution would have been to find another source of Elven. Even though it would not be technically Aldmeri. It would at least appear more so than Highfort. Take what you can get.

I don't mind that it's not Elven looking. I used a Daggerfall type surname on purpose because it sounded pretentious to say, and there are a couple of Altmer NPCs in ESO who have similar non-Elven surnames so I don't feel totally out of place. I would like to know what would be in his language though out of curiosity, as I figure in stuffy old Summerset he'd say it differently and it would be cool to find out :).

Same way as always, I am usually naming my characters in anagrams of the name of my very first dark elf character, back in the days of Pen&Paper roleplaying... and having fun trying to rearrange the latters into something fitting the alt in question...
    So... the current lineup:

    Leskandera - dunmer bounty huntress
    Kelasendar - dunmer goth librarian
    Alakserden - dunmer noble pyromancer
Karel Danes - drunk nord mountain man
Akar-Sendel - nord daedra executioner (might change race someday)
    Laaskerden - argonian dragon wannabe
Elsa Dekran - imperial defector & former pirate

    Kes dre-Lana - orsimer paladin-wannabe blacksmith
Al'Serkande - redguard ex-city guard turned desert bandit
Andrea Selk - breton blood mage vampire waif
Dane Sarkel - breton country noble (might change race someday)

Deslankera - altmer priestess of dibella
    Selkendara - bosmer tree-hugger
Kera de'Saln - khajiit clockwork kitty
Seklandera - bosmer war archer (might change race & name someday)

My first and main character is a stamina sorcerer. He's a khajiit, like the other ones.
I wasn't yet aware of the Khajiit name suffixes and the ta'agra. So I made this: "Jah'Kar".
I always tend to be lore-friendly when naming my characters.

A more interesting story is how I found my account name.
I found an elven dictionnary in a Tolkien's book (french edition), and just picked sonorities I liked. Elwendryll is actually the final iteration of the combination of the words 'wendë' (~maiden) and 'ril' (~brilliance, as in mithril). I'm a guy, but I wanted a name that could be used on both gender without being too out of place. "Elwen" finally became my nickname, and even replaced my first name for my gaming partners. A shame I don't like the ESO High-Elves, it would have been this xD

Haha - Oddly, my main's name (which I took from a fantasy book) is also, I'm told, an eastern European(Romanian, iirc) slang word for Hello - which I've had some whispers about in-game.

Had to pull up some old screenshots to remember what my first character's name actually is. /blush

Based on the name, I can only imagine that I couldn't think of anything at the time. Since it's a re-used name from my list of even-older WoW characters. (And the reason for that character's name - it was a Blood Elf paladin, so I went looking for names in mythology and ended up with Tisiphonae; after one of the furies, the avenger of murder)

My main RP character is called Shawn (shocker that). But he exists in mostly modern settings so I had to come with a more archaic variant, so I picked Johan. Unfortunately the name was taken, as expected. Seeing as he's the quiet, shy type, he became known in Tamriel as Johan the Quiet.

I'm not sure that fits with the tall, Nordic stamblade look but it stuck and I wouldn't rename or delete him.

I stick to names that are appropriate for the lore. my first character in TES games is usually a character that's supposed to be me (an imperial named Emilya because my name is Emily).
My other characters are those that I make in every other TES game I play. One is a khajiit named Zirasha and the other is a khajiit named Qa'Rirra. Zirasha isn't meta in ESO so I deleted her, but Qa'Rirra is

Buffy was named in April 2007 late in the Third Era (Oblivion). She has kept the name as she has traveled through time among Eras. There were several influences and forces at work in selecting her name:

    1. Alliteration. Buffy the blond Bravilian Bosmeri bowgirl. We much preferred the sound of Buffy to, say, Bambi or Barbie. ;)

    2. As a child, her parents had difficulty keeping clothes on her. She was always running around 'in the buff', as it were. Water seemed to make matters worse. In fact she was nearly thirteen before the red-face protests of her archery master, finally convinced her to be more discrete and not drop her clothes to go swimming in every stream they encountered while hunting. To this day, she pleads guilty to the refrain, 'Water makes her clothes fall off' - particularly near any waterfall. :twirl:

    3. At the precise moment of sunrise that marked her birth, Buffy was touched by Azura's hand of fate as a Child of Dawn. Although she does not embrace the role, she is indeed one of few women with special abilities to help kill vampires. She is a Slayer. The influence of another Buffy with a vampire problem is inescapable.

    4. In naming Buffy, I felt the name would be rather tongue-in-cheek and prevent me from taking her too seriously. In that regard. . . I fear I have failed miserably.

Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where destiny is made.

I play healers or DPS often for vet dungeons and trials (NA, CP810+). I play mostly elves or Argonians.
I primarily play Damage-Based stuff in PvP, but occasionally I'll play something tanky or got the heals.
I also love gaining more knowledge both metaphysical and mundane regarding TES lore.

I also occasionally role-play, but I prefer playing the game.

When i started playing during early beta, all we had was Bleakrock Isle.
There were no other zones, just that one small island.
So my first character was a tall, fat, lazy Nord that liked to collect pretty flowers.

When PC launch came around, my first character on live was a tribute to that very first beta character and since he was a Nord, i looked for famous Nordic people for inspiration to name him.
Naturally, Thor Heyerdahl was a first choice (as a botanist he also liked collecting pretty flowers) and since my Nord was maxed out in size (both vertically and horizontally) i named him:

    Thorwald Titanborn

Ilsabet is a name I came up with for a character in another MMO I played for several years. Each of my many alts in that game had a name starting with a different letter of the alphabet, and this is what I came up with for I. I assumed it was a variant of Elizabeth, but it doesn't seem to be common in any particular culture. When I started playing ESO, I liked the sound of it and it seemed distinctive, so I decided to use it for my Breton. Her last name, Menard, is reminiscent of the French Canadian roots on one side of my family. I think it's a good name, aside from the unaccounted-for fact that the game font makes capital I and lowercase l look identical, which tends to confuse people.

My pre-Nerfmire dungeon main is Percy Blakely, which is the real name of the Scarlet Pimpernel.

I'm a big fan of the reference, but I must point out that his surname is Blakeney. :confounded:
