[OST] Could we please do anything about the frequency of this one, ABSOLUTELY DEPRESSING track?

Dear Zenimax!

Your game has wonderful music. Some of its best tracks easily compare with what Jeremy Soule has managed to do with his Elder Scrolls OST and some, I would argue, are even better and manage to expand upon the original themes that were composed by Soule. So why, in God's holy figgin name, must we listen to "Somber Vistas" so often? For those who do not know it by its name, you can just listen to it.

https://youtu.be/iWMNhPBAyV8

This track provides me with the following feelings and mental states:
- depression
- boredom
- sleepiness
- frustration

Not only is it one of the weakest tracks in the game, but also seems to be VERY frequent, to the point that, to me, it is becoming extremely annoying. Or maybe I just think that it is more frequent than others because it is so irritating that it pulls me out of the game completely. In a nutshell, it makes me REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE internally, wishing that I turned off the entire audio in-game and just roll something TES-related from my audio library.

You have magnificent zone tracks such as this (and these are not even the best examples, I just pulled some random ones from YouTube)...

https://youtu.be/Xd2FrYO7pIE

or this...
https://youtu.be/8_OyiuXsNtI

or this...
https://youtu.be/_gtRTMEa-8I

... and several other wonderful tracks, obviously. Not only the ones that were a part of the vanilla game, but also the tracks from all the DLCs and Chapters.

PS: No, I don't mind sad, slow, serious or depressing works of art, in fact, I enjoy them quite a lot, as long as they WORK the way they're supposed to and are presented well.

    Ah, yes, this soundtrack.

As good as this soundtrack is, it does indeed play quite often and I think it should be toned down a bit along the playlist. Adventuring should make you feel energetic and prepared for the new big quest, not...Sad and feeling empty.

This soundtrack should be utilized in the more bleak and depressing areas/sections of the map honestly.

I've been enjoying that new boss theme lately...

I want more like this. An excellent usage of foreboding choirs and that beautiful string at 0:50.

Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where destiny is made.

I play healers or DPS often for vet dungeons and trials (NA, CP810+). I play mostly elves or Argonians.
I primarily play Damage-Based stuff in PvP, but occasionally I'll play something tanky or got the heals.
I also love gaining more knowledge both metaphysical and mundane regarding TES lore.

I also occasionally role-play, but I prefer playing the game.

It plays in both Wrothgar and Reapers March. Not too sure of anywhere else but agreeing with OP.

I hear it in all zones that I frequent, primarily Craglorn and Deshaan. Other than that, I'm positive I've heard it in all zones except Vvardenfell.

Yeah? Then it should be played in places that are scary and uncomfortable, like dungeons and graveyards, not in bloody banks, stables, stores or crafting areas.

Used to feel this way back when TG or DB dropped, for some reason it felt like the doom and gloom tracks which were reserved for some maps began playing in even the nost colorful of areas. It made me itch the way the soundtrack was changed and so I turned music completely off since.

But I have been playing with music lately (shocker!) and don't actually mind the depressive tunes so much anymore. Possibly because I'm in a constant state of depression already and I've taught myself to not care about bad things anymore.

But yeah it's kind of constant and gloomy. So much that when something else plays, it actually feels like 'hey! Some happy music for a change!'

They also seem to have removed the combat track which had that loud bell at the start, that many people wondered what proc was doing it. Either that or they removed the bell from the track itself seeing as I haven't noticed it at all lately.

Disagree. This is one of the Orsinium pieces, and I enjoy it very much indeed. Maybe your ADHD doesn't appreciate the more melancholic or somber tracks (it's called Somber Vistas after all), but I enjoy it and wouldn't want to see it changed at all.

Don't agree with OP, I like it, topicstarter probably should visit different areas to hear different music and not sit in same one all time.

Yikes. Imagine being this edgy. Can always trust Carbonised to act holier-than-thou on ESO forums. Now that Ch4mpTW has been banned, you're becoming the prime snowflake around here. Feels weird, man. I honestly suggest you stick to being a d*** in the game (which is how I've seen you behave A NUMBER of times, both in chat and in group content) itself while furnishing another bleak household for that one character you've got.

Not to mention that I've clearly stated that I enjoy slow, seriously-toned content in the OP, and have primarily criticized the FREQUENCY of how many times the track is played.

Eh, I lost this conversation anyway. I gave you actual attention and wasted my time on you.

But I don't! Craglorn and Deshaan are just zones where I start and end my days. So usually those are the zones where I arrange my inventory and do the crafting. When I'm not in Cyro, I usually quest on a casual level.

It is not bad. The main issue, as stated, is its frequency. :) I'm asking for more variety, primarily.

And I think that says a lot, actually. But I actually do remember being fond of this song when Orsinium came out. Orsinium has a very serious, medieval tone and the track fits right in. Lovely! Outside of Orsinium, and so often? Definitely not. Other than that, I will agree that it is quite forgettable in comparison to some of the better tracks that ESO offers. It took me three years to make this thread, after all. Imagine all the times that I heard it and simply forgot about it. :)

I like the music of Somber Vistas.
I recognize it from Wrothgar and I think it fits with Craglorn as well. It's foreboding which fits with the harshness of both maps. I dont remember hearing it anywhere else besides Wrothgar.

    +1

What I'd really like is a "skip" button. Leave all the soundtracks however they are, just let me move to the next track if I want. This one doesn't pull me out of the game, but there are a couple that do. The Cyrodiil battle music playing in Craglorn is particularly jarring.

Music is a personal experience, just a little control other than quickly muting would be welcome.

There's a lot of beautiful music in this game and franchise. :)

I just miss the old music so much, from a year or two ago... i dont like any of the new ones unfortunately.
when i started playing 1,5 years ago the music was so epic... i even enjoyed loadings screens or farming with that music.
the crownstore music-box reminds me at this time lately and sometimes i play the sound on youtube in the background, but its not the same... :)

I like this one. It has a feeling of many battles fought and many souls lost. Battlefields forgotten and lives shattered. Sometimes you have to consider the casualties of war, even in game. A right feeling for Craglorn and Reapers March, considering their lore.
