If we're looking at sets like Domihaus and Molag Kena.

Molag Kena
- 129 Spell Damage
- 129 Weapon Damage

Domihaus
- 1096 Max Stamina
- 1096 Max Magicka

When does one become better than the other?

Strictly speaking, probably the spell damage, by a slim margin, mostly because you get a bigger tank to cast from with max magic. There are other things you need to consider when thinking of damage, mainly penetration and crit chance/damage. You need to be at a certain level of those as well.

Generally speaking as well, Stam toons stack weapon damage and mag toons stack max magic. This is because mag has access to more percentage amps to max magic then spell damage and Stam has access to more percentage amps to weapon damage then max stamina.

For PvP, 1 Pc Domihaus > 1 pc Kena, as getting 1k Stam+1k Mag from a single piece of armor is insane, that's a lot of stats.

    Damage? Status? What?
    • If you want maximum damage: Weapon and Spell Damage.
    • If you want less damage, but status: Max Stamina and Magicka. That is, you will get a lot of Stamina and Magicka! Think about it! You will be able to use one more skill!

Since damage of your abilities are also scaled with your magicka/stamina, I don't understand your point of view.

However, people say that ~10 mag/stam equals 1 weap/spell dmg, so Molag Kena looks better. But, it also depends on your current sustainability. Just like in any other RPG you have to find a balance between spell damage and magicka pool, between defensive skills and offensive skills on your panels, between sustainability and burstability.
So, it's not like "Molag Kena is better period", it's like "Molag Kena is better if you don't need bigger magicka pool in your current build".
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

It usually depends on if you are magicka or stamina. Stamina has more weapon damage %modifiers so stacking weapon damage is stronger. On magicka it is the other way, most %modifiers are max magicka.

Major Sorcery buffs the % of Spell Damage, so stacking that you get lot better result than of max. Magicka. So for dps it'd be more profitable to have more of that, than too much Magicka, unless it's for a pet sorc.
Like I posted in a different thread somewhere, while I had 42k max Magicka and about 2600 Spell Damage, after shuffling some gear around and using different food etc., I'm now running with only 37k max Magicka and 3080 Spell Damage (and higher mag regeneration as well), doing more dps than before.
