I don't mind an option for confirmation prompts for those prone to acting before thinking, but I wouldn't want them to be mandatory.

Why not go ahead and learn the motif / recipe? Once learned, you cannot accidentally use it again.

Alternatively, don't look at stuff like this while just the inventory is open. You cannot accidentally use something when interacting with a container or the bank. If you think you might want to bank it for a different character to use or just to sell it, leave it be until you go to the banker.

I have 5 characters on one server and have accidentally learned something on one that I meant to save for another. No big loss, everything comes around again at some point. Granted, I don't do the whole public guild trader thing and thus don't feel like I missed out on much by accidentally using a motif valued at 13 gold or so.

As someone who learned an Akaviri style motif page on accident, I can only agree. It's already a thing for destroying purple items and higher and there are plenty of worthless purple and gold items (laurel for example).
