Embarrassed acknowledgement of how much I streamline surveys

silvermistktralasub17_ESO
I finally broke down and created a quick spreadsheet with regions that have survey maps on one side, and the crafts that use surveys across the top. Now I can note every survey map before I start picking them up in the morning (including duplicates), erase/deincrement them as I pick them up, and can get them very quickly. Almost necessary as I have 15 characters doing writs every day, and often have more than 12 surveys to pick up when I go to do it in the morning. It certainly is a time saver, as I'm not having to go back and forth as much.

I just use an addon that shows me the location on a map, but I only do surveys on one character, so it makes it easier.

I don’t have problems with surveys, but treasure maps make me mad and swarm huge chunk of storage
  • silvermistktralasub17_ESO
I do them on one character too. The spreadsheet is so that I'm not bouncing back and forth, or constantly consulting my inventory to see where the next one is. The purpose is to be able to go directly to the ones I need, and not have to switch back to the map (unless I have to pull an unowned house trick to acquire the stuff from a duplicate survey).

    @Alassirana

edit: my purpose is more or less that I have so many, that because they are sorted in the inventory by type alphabetically, rather than region alphabetically, and many of them are close together in a region, it makes more sense to be able to know all of the ones in that region in a single glance, without having to pick it out on the map. I know all of the spots more or less by heart. It's just seeing which ones I have that day.

I know what you mean. I ended up writing a quick add-on to scan my inventory and do the same. Now I get quick feedback as to which zone(s) I need to visit.

I throw mine into my bank, and get a weeks worth all at one time. I generally don't have enough time to do them during weekdays after doing my writs (on 26 toons), so I wait until the weekend to collect them. Generally have them in each zone. Have a character in Fjord's, Cowards, and Dubious food to just run around and collect them.

You'd make a fine EVE player.

When you're doing as many as you're doing, I am not surprised you're finding ways to optimise your time. I'm impressed.

Psh, I have spreadsheets for my non-crafted sets, motifs, furnishings, recipes, and surveys. Amateur ;)

So yeah, I sort of spreadsheet all the things, as I’m a lowly console pleb with no add-ons.

I use the Lost Treasure addon, put all my surveys on the two characters that collect them and just go to a wayshrine and work my way down the list of zones looking for red Xs.

Same with Treasure maps on the character that's currently going for the 1000 chest achievement.

If you're on PC and have the Lazy Writ addon it's really not bad, it's pretty much as time consuming to log in and out as to actually do the writs. The surveys are by far the greatest chore, greatest bore, most job-like part of the system. I really do not like them.

I tried to code a filter for the custom categories addon to sort by zone, but it looks like that's not an option, sadly.

I do consolidate my surveys onto a single character, so that helps.

the jubilee event, then the addition of jewelry crafting burnt me out quite a bit on crafting in general...

I've even stopped farming...I have at least 100 or so crafting surveys clogging up my inventories right now...

I got a lot of mats though...debating whether to send the surveys to a friend, or, just hold on to them...

hmmmmm, not even sure if you can mail crafting surveys...

This, except I do them maybe once a month. Use the Map Pins addon which shows the locations of surveys in your inventory and go zone to zone. No need for spreadsheets, you know you've got a duplicate if you grab the nodes and the big X is still on the map. And it only takes a few seconds to run away and come back to respawn duplicates.

I tend to let them build up so I have at least one of each type of writ in each region & spend 2/3 days doing them all & enjoy a monster refining session after & watch those gold mats pile up.

here's a tip though if you've an alchemy survey & don't like what's there. Don't pick anything up, walk away then come back to it & it will have changed to different plants

I'm with you there. Just run off and come back and the survey is active again if you have a stack of the same one. I used to do the unowned house trick but the login time was killing me.

Literally plop all your surveys on one character, and forget about them for 6 months.

Then spend a full week of harvesting only surveys and doing nothing else, because it will take that damn long.

But you will have 10k+ of all the raw materials in the game.

you don't have to go very far for the survey spot to respawn...it's a little different for each one, but in general, they're usually at least line-of-sight
