Joined a vet Spindleclutch I for the pledge today. After the 1st couple of pulls i see things are dying really fast and i'm only doing anywhere between 30-39%(remained that way throughout the whole run) of the dps so i typed "Feels good to not have to do 70% of the dps for once". Obviously that's a compliment to the others 2 dps, but then the other guy says "I hope your potl is good". After the 1st spider boss which has like 800k hp and died in less than 10 secs, the dude claims my potl uptime was only 50% and proceeds to post his dps log after every boss, he was doing 3-10k more than me.

Anyways after the dungeon is done the guy sends me a tell "70% right? More like 10%". I just ignored him because honestly i don't tolerate any sort of drama and toxicity especially when it comes to pve content. In pvp a bit of trash talking is understandable.

How exactly did i offend this dude?

Sounds like he didn't like how your words sounded arrogant. You started off with poor choice of words is my thoughts.

Or they interpreted what you said differently to how you intended it to sound.
Sometimes you need to be blatantly obvious about the compliment, like 'OMG wow this dps is amazing'

I generally stay away from the highly toxic elitists vet PUG groups. However, when talking to people in such runs you have to walk on eggshells, they are so use to living in toxicity that if you dont make a compliment seem obvious( and no way it can be taken sarcastically) and treat them like 5 year olds that get their feelings hurt easy, you run the risk of a toxic explosion.

Its really exhausting, i dont know who would subject themselves to such an environment willingly.

Just remember meanings and sayings mean totally different things in the world. I am just guessing they read it differently than how you ment it. Especially I am guessing (never did anything like what you did) it's quick reading with everything else going on.
Not my quote but I love this saying

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

maybe it was some kind of misunderstandment on his side

maybe you've met a person who was unpleasant of doing 70% dps on his side =)

While I get what you're saying here, I can also see how you're starting the conversation off on the wrong foot, so to speak. There's an undertone of "I'm usually doing more dps than everyone else combined", which (while that might often be true!) isn't the most polite thing to say. Even if you're saying it as a weird roundabout compliment to the uncommonly competent people you're currently with.

You immediately are putting things into the DPS Pissing Match arena with those sort of comments, and the other people responded about how I'd think randoms would, to be honest. Even mentioning dps is usually a trigger for an alarmingly large group of folks who're seemingly just waiting for an excuse to brag / compare / get defensive about it.

Next time, maybe try a more straightforward, "Hey, this group has really good dps! :)" or something. As others said, you also have to consider the language / cultural barriers that may be in play with people from around the globe.

My thoughts as well when I read this.

I will often queue up with 2 others from my guild. When I am tanking I often ask the dps in our group what % he is doing. It does not matter how little the pug is pulling we never say a thing, good or bad. At the end, it is just GG and a good run.

IMO, at the root of it is that ZOS encourages players to replay content that hasn't been enjoyable for years because it's been played so many times.

Players are incentivized to do this for loot. They basically become loot addicts. When ZOS addressed ESO's problems during the summer of 2014 and laid out the plan to change the game into what it's become, one point stood out in particular: They wanted to implement an endless reward cycle.

So here we are, years later, a community of loot addicts playing content we no longer enjoy for rewards. This is not only fundamentally boring, but it creates a condition called time urgency which makes us miserable to play with.

Sounds like he was just out of diapers and doesn't know how to converse properly or play nice either !

THAT is the one thing I hate about this game. Players who are aggressive in play and words for absolutely no reason except to "prove" they are better or like to intimidate !

You did the right thing by ignoring him !

English is my 2-nd language and to be honest, seeing this comment in time when there is no time to chat, I'd probably think: "damn, another arrogant elitist bragging that he pulls entire group". You would ruin my day or at least that run. Obviously all because of simple misunderstanding :).

It read like you were doing 70% of the DPS at the beginning and now the others have stepped up their game and are finally helping out.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.
