More DPS for ice skills

Fire if for single target dps, shock more aoe and ice for slowing down and staying alive. Why does it have to be like this? Some unwritten rule that serves noboby?

Especially ice would need some dps love IMHO. I want to be able to do real damage with frost abilities, comparable to fire.

Why not just use fire then?

Yeah, that -was- the way they decided to "make things different".

Which is okay, really... if it was not quite that pigeonholing. If it had been halfsies... half the skills in the "theme", the rest more general so people can make it work either way... but then, that is one of the things I keep making suggestions for "specializations" for, like: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/369966/class-morph-idea-mk-ii ;)

Because it would be really nifty to have a way out for wardens getting stuck in "ice damage is for tanking" mode... because some of us like to pick their magic for character -flavor- and not for what it is most effective for.

    ...

And when it comes to destruction magic brought in staff form... well, there the icy skills at least are capable of DPSing, more or less. There I would more wish for additional optiopns... I mean, both in form (Why do we -have- to have staffyness? Why not also wands, runes, spellbooks, holy symbols, etc.?) and in flavor (why can't we have "coldfire" staves like NPC necromancers get, or purple magic staves like NPC warlocksa nd hedge wizards get, or red-black staves like NPC illusionists and abner tharn...), which is why I consider those and other options in: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii ;)

Yes all single target dps could use fire but isn't it a bit dull? Why not then take away all dps from ice and make it just all about stopping and health. Why give a taste of dps but not enough to make use of it? I personally love to go my own way and would like to do good damage with my ice warden.

Why ice? Why not? It's something different.

We absolutely need more ice dps skills and passives to accommodate that. tanking and dps with ice can coexist depending on morphs and stuff think the impaling shards line! I think the heavy attack on ice staff should lower resistances on the enemy hit making it good for both dps and tanks.

Like i said above, i think a resistance lowering heavy attack would be good. Makes heavy attacking worth it.

When class rep discords were first launched, I immediately relayed this "piercing cold" lower resistance idea in the tanking and Warden ones. But someone was at the time adamant that if ice retained its snaring CC while receiving a damage boost, it would be too strong in PvP. Though I argued that frost is currently no damage boost+soft CC whereas fire and shock are damage boost+hard CC (knock back & stun), he was not convinced.

Would you suggest a more effective argument against his insistence on PvP effects?

I would say to him that although we snare and cc alot, we don't actually do anywhere near as much damage as lightning and especially fire. In pvp we are literal assist bots. And we just got nerfed indirectly this patch with the light armour grace passive snare reduction. I know we are cancer in pvp but all we do is snare and cc groups. Which is valuble in pvp and not at much in pve as a damage dealer. I think the problem lies with permafrost and that northern storm doesnt compete with it. In pvp we rely on ground based frost spells to have any elemental viability and style. And that is because we have one single target frost only damaging spell. I agree the cc is sort of an issue but i wouldnt mind droping the northern storm snare a huge amount or completely to gain a passive 10% increase to frost damage. Snares are getting countered more and more and our cc snaremania is becoming more and more obsolete.

I think our path to salvation is by removing the ccs and snares from northern storm and unstable wall of elements to rework them into much more dps oriented skills as that would make permafrost the tank morph and no-one uses unstable wall of elements due to the fact that it literally does less dps than blockade has a smaller radius and has less duration. This morph needs to do MUCH more damage and potentially also removing the secondary effect too so you have a choice still.

And then reworking crystallized slab and arctic blast into potent and unique frost dps skills. Doing this will increase our dps a large amount giving us more unique skills while reducing snares and not changing passives.

There are quite a number of NPC only classes that ZOS could use to create new hybrid classes, for a proper ice mage they could combine the warden's winters embrace tree with these npc only skills

FROST MAGE: Ice arrow, Summon Ice barrier, Winter's reach
    Battlemage: Ice cage

they could even take frost skills from previous TES games.

I would like it if they would change ice staff to be like crit damage buff and ice abilities to have higher crit chance, or the other way around.
And abandon the tanking aspect from ice staves.

I dont see any reason why ice staff heavy attack should taunt.

Also the worry for ice snare + dps getting too strong in pvp sounds very far fetched as well. In my experience my fire reach does more efficient stopping than my ice clench ever does. With the fire reach i can actually sink in multiple spells but ice equivalent i cannot achieve the same, even when it is supposed to be better at stopping. Maybe it is the knock out that does it with fire? Can we have similar with ice?

Frost DESTRUCTION staff... no tanking ult, no tanking skills, one tanking passive... it’s sad really... ice is caught between dps (what people want) and tanking (what people don’t want) and it isn’t really good at either... for the love of logic and the dream of having a viable Magden subclass in this game give ice back to dps and then make a proper magicka tanking weapon with a tanking ult, five tanking abilities, and five tanking passives, in the form of alteration staff
