Bugs like the big ones always happen when a phat patch goes live, and there's almost always a mid-week patch to address really serious ones. Be happy they're actually working on them.

Yes. Down for maintenance three times in four days IS a big deal. It's excessive enough to warrant adding days to the special events the down time is interrupting as well.

Some MMO games still have scheduled maintenance every single day.

Maybe they will be the talk of TwitchCon about this... of course not needing to do these would have been better. But hey, no ones perfect.

I don't play other MMO's.....I play this one. We are talking about ESO here. Is ESO setting a new standard for MMO's or not?

It's still a fail to have two unscheduled maintenance sessions over three days.....Monday's was scheduled, so not counting that one.

But those MMOs are not down for 2-3 hours. Maybe 30 mins max. And they usually give you compensation for the time lost if it is longer than expected especially during events.

Anyway fixing 1 bug is just a small thing but they are leaving lot of bugs and questionable changes hanging until next weeks patches which is pretty sad.

EVE does that - and it is great that they do it like that - but then again, downtime there is typically less 15 minutes and even on a patch day, it is rarely more than 30 minutes. This is how a company does it, who has a clue how to do it properly.

This maintenance is addressing solely the issue with monster corpses not despawning during certain world boss encounters (see Dev Tracker).

That is laughable compared to other game-breaking bugs introduced with Murkmire still unfixed and clearly not worth another downtime before Monday’s regular maintenance. It is not game-breaking at all.

Yup, and in the early days of mmos that was the case has well.

But all depends on what is going on with the base and the game, if the pp was more active and widely used across the player base we would have down time more often Cause problems would happen more if it was very popular

    Just my random thoughts

It's not a big deal. It's early enough in both the US and Europe that most people are getting ready for work or are working and I'd rather they get things fixed. This patch has more bugs than previous passes. We can't even interact with things in our houses unless we pick them up and put them down again. Plus of course, the lag that was supposed to be fixed, etc.

Now if they can make a character walk outside a room and interact with other characters, that would be something.

No one really wants that - that is why "walking in stations" is put on ice until the next eternity will have passed.

Maybe if they had a server to test things before they go live, so that they don't have to take the server down to fix things that they could have easily checked on that test server... oh wait.

Damn maintenance again, and I took a vacation from work to play in the morning... Why don't they do it when everyone sleeps, a deep night would be best. Deep breath... I'm off to relax, will double check ph translation :).

Some problems appear on the live servers, which you cannot find before in a test environment. So even with extensive testing and fixing on PTS some issues could still appear on the live servers.

And here is what a good company does, when it really has a longer downtime - of like several hours - an exact analysis, what was going on explained in layman's terms to players, so that even those unfamiliar with IT can understand it - in this article

    https://www.eveonline.com/article/behind-the-scenes-of-a-long-eve-online-downtime

and we got as well quite some amount of skill points as compensation - not that we would have lost any during downtime - this was just an extra for having to wait for a couple of hours instead of just minutes.

Sadly a lot just use it to get a head start when things go live...also the people that use pts is limited. and some problems will only appear when lie and interacting across many things and so on. Thats just how it goes with mmos

Some MMO games still have scheduled maintenance every single day.

And some have only had downtime a handful of times in 6 years (Guild Wars 2), because they actually built a modern system and infrastructure rather than being stuck in 1998.

You'd think that a missing French translation and adds of a boss not de-spawning aren't exactly those things though. I'm just wagering a guess here of course, but somehow I think those two things could have been avoided with a tad more QA.
