Khajiiti ClanMothers and their Roles

I find it interesting that a Female tends to always be the Mayor, or Leader of a Village/Town/City. But the ClanMothers, are they elected by their people and its just a badge of office carried over from their culture, or are they born into the position, proposing communities work like Prides made up of extended family members? That way the "ClanMother" is more or less a the legitimate Mother of "the Clan" or Town.

    I think you can talk with the Clan Mother of one of the towns in Reaper's March about the topic. If I remember correctly, it's a hereditary title that goes to the eldest daughter of the current Clan Mother when she passes away.
