How does conjured shield work in PVP (battle spirit) ? I don't understand

Tooltip says 50% of the amount of HP. Right. In the overland content, the shield is exactly half of my hp, regardless of my magicka values. No problems.

When I enter Cyrodiil, battle spirit says 5k is added to hp but 50% of shield is reduced. However, no matter how I try to calculate I cannot get my current shield value.

The trouble is, magicka values go into that calculation. If I slot, for example, Bound Aegis with 8% magicka, my shield goes up almost 1k. If I do the same in overland content, shield does not change. Paradoxically, if I use tri-stat glyph to up the HP for 570, I get less shield in PVP than using pure magicka glyph on that armour (because with tri-stat glyph you get 50% less magicka).

So basically magicka>hp for shields in pvp.

What's going on here?

My understanding is that the battle spirit 50% redux is calculated before the ability’s health cap. So, it sounds like in pve you have enough magicka where your shield strength is hitting the health cap and so increases to magicka won’t have any affect but increases to health (without costing too much of your magicka) will. On the contrary, your Max Magicka is not high enough for your shield to hit the health cap in PvP after the 50% redux from battle spirit is applied. So in this case, because you’ve not yet hit the shield’s health cap, you can increase your magicka up to a point for stronger shields. But once you hit that cap, you’ll have to increase your health before you can increase your shield strength.

    Edit for example numbers:
Max shield strength based on magicka value: 15k
    Max health: 18k
Max shield strength with 50% health cap: 9k
=9k shield in pve, up to a possible 15k if you increase your health

Max shield strength based on magicka value: 15k (the same bc no change to magicka value)
Max health after battle spirit: 23k
Max shield strength with 50% health cap: 11.5k
Shield strength after battle spirit 50% redux: 7.5k
=7.5k shield in PvP, up to a possible 11.5k if you increase your magicka or put cp into Bastion

Uhh... I'm trying to understand. Why is there a shield strength based on magicka value? I thought the shield relied only on HP now and 50% of it.

Or is it that 50% HP is the cap while shields are still being upped by magicka? Correct?

Your magicka shield’s strength (think sorc shields, light armor shields) is still calculated based on magicka, it just now has a cap based on your max health. So, for example, a tanky build that has higher health but a relatively low magicka pool might have numbers like this:

Max shield strength based on magicka value: 6k
    Max health: 35k
Max shield strength with 50% health cap: 17.5k
=6k shield in pve, up to a possible 17.5k if she increases her magicka or puts cp into Bastion

Max shield strength based on magicka value: 6k (the same bc no change to magicka value)
Max health after battle spirit: 40k
Max shield strength with 50% health cap: 20k
Shield strength after battle spirit 50% redux: 3k
=3k shield in PvP, up to a possible 20k if she increases her magicka or puts cp into Bastion

Edit: just saw your edit. Yep, that’s my understanding of it

    Alright, makes sense now. :)

    But it also means:

    1) Most builds having large magicka pool will still do better with pure magicka glyphs in PVP non-cp because of raised HP cap by Battle Spirit.

    2) Bastion will serve mostly for PVP CP campaign, as the 50% cap is already reached in PVE. How many points you need in Bastion depends on how much HP cap you miss in PVP. If it's 5% then you add enough CP points to reach 5%. Add more and those points are wasted... unless you up the HP again.

In short about Bastion, that CP is useless atm till next update

Too short for such serious statement.
    Everything is viable

^^ It's not useless. It gives exactly the right percentage as needed to reach the HP shield cap. Read my last post or this whole thread.

It is however not effective for PVE because most people already reached 40/50% of HP.

You have to basicly make the shield by stacking magica. Then its capped at 40 or 50 % of your health.

So if u havevlow magika you wont make it to cap.

If u have hi magika you will be capped

if you have 24k health, your shield is capped at 12.

so if you have a 18k dmg shield battle spirit will make it 9k so the cap will not affect you

if you have 16k health your capped at 8

so if you have an 18k shield again battle spirit will make it 9k but the cap will only allow it yo reach 8k
