They still won't refund the Devour Skill point, I don't think they are too worried about skill points.

"Need," is an awfully strong way to put it. But, yeah, with the changes to shields, cheap respecs would be nice.

When you destroy what somebody paid you for -- e.g. the Bastion benefit -- you should at least refund the cost.

A respec on my main will set me back 3200 for Attributes, 3k for CP, and I want to say about 12k for skills. So, almost 20k. Which, you know what? That's not that bad. But, I'm no begging for cheap respecs. Wouldn't say no to them, however.

The total amount for all my NA toons to get the skills I now want is close to 80k. Not as cheap, is it? Cheap would be 3k per, like CP. I respec CP like I change my clothes, with new toons. Just trying stuff out, but with skill points....

I play 15 toons, not that cheap too, but affordable

While free or cheaper respec would be a nice gesture (at least for a brief period) I earn 9000 gold in less than two days with my two crafters (level 44 and 32) with daily writs alone; if you need to respec I suppose your chars are level 50 with a bunch of CPs, so you'd be much faster (the gold from the writs is levelled).

I have money, having money isn't the issue. The issue is that it is an unnecessary gold sink that will hurt others that don't have gold as I do. I can make 90k in one hour of farming raw materials, consistently. Doesn't mean I think it's fair to change so many skill on so many builds and still have to pay for it.

Also, ZoS gave us 100k last month, but this month thy are not taking away 9k. It is more like 90k for me and many others. Multiple toons hit by it, and many characters with a lot more than just the basic skill points. Builds up fast.

It would cost me 18k to make that change. You must have like 2 skill points.

It might help it you post a more well-reasoned argument as to why this update warrants free respecifications. Personally, I'm not seeing it. As I recall, the only times the developers have done completely free respecifications (as in mandatory resets of all of your skill points) were for significant gamewide overhauls. This patch isn't that sort of thing. They have at times offered reduced cost respecifications where significant, across the board changes have been made. This patch doesn't include those either.

so you would rather delete a character than spend 15k gold (or less) for a full respec, 200IQ strategy.

You have to do the writs, and sell the items...

    And it takes 2 days.

People's skills and characters functioned properly before the update.

Your "solution" is a bad workaround, and assumed that people do not value their time, effort, or don't have other things to do with the time it takes you to farm up the 9k (which is a lot less than what it will cost many other people to rectify the damage caused by the changes).

While this is a video game, I think people fail to realize that the time we spend playing it is REAL time and that has real life implications. Not everyone is okay with WASTING more of their time just because developers had no foresight and made boneheaded changes in the game. There is a reason why games like Path of Exile give free Respects when they make these types of changes, and even WoW would reset talent distribution when they made talent tree changes; among other things. EQ2 did this, as well.

Giving out free resets or reimbursing players for character-breaking changes has been commonplace in the MMORPG industry for the past 10-15 years - since Alternate Advancement and Specialization systems were added in.

The onus should not be on the players to fix PROBLEMS introduced by the developers. It is their responsibility to make it right. No one should have to waste their time, effort, or gold dealing with this.

You people sound like a bunch of low-IQ apologists.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't reset everyone's skills with the patch. They used to do that pretty regularly if they made major changes to the way skills worked. The strife morphs being a good example of that.

The problem with that is that it tends to work out that the vast majority of players don't need a respec, and greatly resent being forced into one especially when they have a lot of characters and haven't copied down all their existing specs prior to finding that they're all forcibly stripped of their specs even tho' they're going to end up adopting exactly the same respecs.

ZOS heard the complaints on this and realised there were better ways of offering reduced or free respecs to those who felt they needed them, but only on those occasions when the need was genuine as otherwise the concession would have been abused.

Also, I've lost track of the number of times I've logged in to find a message saying I'd been respecced when in fact I hadn't been. Far better to leave it in the hands of the player, with some cost concessions where appropriate.

I just respecced skill morphs for like 850 gold. There was no point respeccing skills from scratch, and I have like 30 extra skill points anyway. Unless you're really short on points, there's no need to go further back than morphs as far as I can see.

...that required one to withdraw over 100k from the bank just to get the dialogue to respec, and than have the privilege of resetting ALL one's skill points. They should have simply refunded everyone who bought the passive and not made us do a bunch of extra, unnecessary work. If they actually cared, they could have written the code in 1/4 of the time it would have taken me to jump through all those hoops.

if you are really commited, have 15 characters and a crafting bag you can just do all writs on a daylie basis (except jewelrycrafting maybe?), thats like 58k gold from just turning in the quest + gold materials + other stuff.
I made a spreadsheet to track my gold materials I dropped from daily crafting writs and on average you can get like 12-20 gold materials per day from doing pledges on 15 characters + gold materials on top from mail hirelings.
Another bonus is when you drop 100+ voucher writs you can also offload them for a fair price on guild traders.
Yes its annoying to do that every day, but if you got time why not spend it productivly, rather than RP walk through glenumbra.

TL;DR: If you are commited and have 15 characters with max crafting you can make 150k+ per day from crafting writs only. That should be enough for respeccing now and then
