Will you slot a shield in Murkmire?

I will continue to slot the same shield I slotted before Murkmire.
As long as shields continue to exist as an extra health pool I will still consider using them as always.

You’ve got Bright Throat’s Boast AND Necropotence and you can’t slot tristat runes to boost your health and shield cap, why? You lose next to nothing and gain survivabilty.

The QQ is almost as bad as Morrowind’s. Almost. Also rerolling stamina won’t save you if your a blind button masher either, given the removal of passive dodge and changes to dodge roll.

Except people were reporting pets were dying to trash mobs like they weren't supposed to..

Edit: To answer the OP I used to slot empowered ward to provide that +10% magicka recovery to the dungeon/trial groups but now I think it will almost certainly have to be the stingy version.

Have shields been nerfed in PvE too? I thought it was only in PvP.

Kind of. It really depends on your character. As a console player I haven't been able to play on PTS, but if you have decent resists and health it's probably going to be a wash. The sorcerer shield and light armor skill line shield are capped at 40-50% of your health, but they also now inherit your resistances. Which means if you run around with more resistances and decent health already you won't notice much of a difference in most instances. Folks who do glass cannon characters will have some issues though, I'd wager... which is the intention of the change.

After playing on live it is definitely a nerf. It is hard to get very high resistances when playing 5/1/1 with the majority light armour. It also puts extra pressure on an already crowded bar if you are a pet sorc as you might want to run surge and boundless storm to raise your resists and get some passive healing back. Almost makes dual pet builds unviable but you kind of need the burst heal from the twilight matriach in some solo content as you can't always rely on the RNG based heal from surge.

Interesting. Like I said, I can't test it, and while you may well be right I doubt it'll impact me much personally with how my lightning mage is built. I'm one of those folks who runs around with more resistance and health, so yup... I anticipate a wash. Especially since I don't crutch on shields with him as it is (he doesn't need to with higher health and resistances... haha).

...oh and a huge DPS loss in PVE for most characters that are already nowhere near the top of the list as far as DPS goes. Might be ok for PvP tho.

Did you actually read what I wrote or just parrot something without thinking? I literally just handed you a gear-combo for more damage and sustain than is currently on live.

Ignoring your tone, happy to test swapping out a set for blood throat but my initial thoughts are that whatever increase in Magicka and other stats are not going to compensate for the loss of shields or the bonuses from other popular 5 piece sets let alone bring performance up to par with previous builds.

    So no, no parrots here.

Given my current build I have already dropped ward from my bar. There isn't space for it now that I need surge and storm to provide extra healing and the Magicka drain from having to recast shields isn't worth it.

Completed vMA on the PTS with just a few extra deaths and did a no death run of vet CoA2 HM just after the patch went live last night. The place I will miss shields the most is in those moments where I am last man standing in a dungeon and manage to pull off a rez because I had just enough shields to survive a few light attacks from the boss. Can see more group wipes with pugs in the future.

Pets can't die (in a lot of content), that's why I had mine.
Now I will sub it with a heal.

Okay, I was quietly optimistic on my PvE solo matriarch only magsorc and her Empowered Ward. I've tested her enough to consider some of the 'interesting choices' the devs claimed the nerf would inspire. So here are some of the 'interesting choices' I'm considering:

    1. Retire the character. I loved the joy, elegance and fun of fighting her. She was neither a glass cannon nor overpowered - she was simply fun to play. That is gone.
    2. Dump ESO and reinstall Skyrim, or more likely, Oblivion. Those games are a bit small but at least I know what I'm getting and don't have to worry about having my hard work nerfed. At this point, it isn't just this patch; it is the last two years of patches that have taught me that each one simply makes my game less fun. It feels that, perhaps with Murkmire, ESO may have achieved becoming not enough fun to play anymore.

I don't want to overreact so I'll play my non-magsorc characters for a few days as I ponder the options.
