As per the title. Be sure to post all the juicy details if you are changing the shield / defensive aspects of your build to give some ideas to the community! Do you think the changes to shields are a world-ending nerf, or do you think you'll be able to tweak your build and remain survivable?

    Probably going heavy with the two magicka classes that synergize best with it.

    I did not slot a shield before Murkmire, and probably never will.
    I couldn't get used to the whole shield thing, even on my mag chars. Prefer resists and heals. Not doing any super competitive content though. Shield proc sets might be more interesting with the addition of resists to shields.

    I'll use Hardened Ward on my sorc and Dampen Magicka on my other toons. Nothing much has changed.

    Will still use shimmering shield on magden. Will have to test the dampen in some vet dungeons to see if still worth running on occasion. Timed shields just seems ridiculous lol. I get so many funny images imagining the thought process of whoever came up with these shield nerfs.

    I will continue to slot the same shield I slotted before Murkmire.
    I currently play a destro/resto magsorc, and run Hardened and Healing Ward. I play on Xbox, so did not have a chance to try this on the PTS, but am thinking about dropping healing ward (and resto altogether) for something else....just haven't decided what yet.

    I slotted a shield before Murkmire, but will not do so anymore.
    As posted elsewhere just did vet CoAII HM (no death) on my sorc post the patch release. Dropped the shield (ward) after the first boss encounter. It is just a waste of time as it gets ripped off instantly. Slotted crit surge instead but it isn't a proper replacement for a real HoT. Overall the playstyle feels less fun. Probably time for me to take a break for a couple of months. Pity there is bugger all out there worth playing at the moment.

    For the record, I didn't have a problem with shields having cast times, nor do I have a problem with these changes. I'm not a power gamer, so I generally don't care about game mechanics changes in general as they impact me very little. In most cases, they favor players like me. I'm pretty sure that my lightning mage is going to be the same or stronger when the patch drops on console. Why? Because while he's a damage dealer, I don't build glass cannons. His shield strength will likely remain unchanged overall, since he doesn't have minimum resistances or minimum health. o:)

    It isn't the casting of the shield that is fun, it is the lack of a proper HoT and the increased damage taken when the shield is useless that is not fun.

    It makes it fun, because a game is more fun when you stay alive to play it.

    Kind of. It really depends on your character. As a console player I haven't been able to play on PTS, but if you have decent resists and health it's probably going to be a wash. The sorcerer shield and light armor skill line shield are capped at 40-50% of your health, but they also now inherit your resistances. Which means if you run around with more resistances and decent health already you won't notice much of a difference in most instances. Folks who do glass cannon characters will have some issues though, I'd wager... which is the intention of the change.
