Let's face it, the vast majority of quest rewards aren't worth using. People either dismantle them for materials or sell them for some meager coin. However, I used to keep some of them for mementos. In my house, I have a chest of mementos filled with items that were given to me from characters that I liked, or important quest-lines. These items, from the base game, have descriptions that give them meaning. The Ayleid's Wrath, for example. I don't think there's a single person who has ever used this sword, but its description has weight: King Dynar gave you this greatsword as a remembrance of companions who fell to the Planemeld.
So why did the expansions do away with descriptions? At the end of Summerset, I believe Raz gives you a ring that's meant to be a great honor. I used it in crafting, because it had no description to give it personal value. It was just inventory junk at that point. Perhaps I'm literally the only person to care about this sort of thing, but it's nice to be able to look at the items I kept and be reminded of things I did in the game years ago. I'd really like to see the item descriptions make a return.
