Magelight breaks stealth now?

If you are in the dark and put a torch on of course everybody will see you. That is basically what we are doing. Want to stay hidden, don't put a torch on. So if the purpose of being able to see who is hidden/invisible it should show yourself as well. After all it's finding EVERYONE who is hidden.

Is this one of the "I need the easy button and others shouldn't". That is what seems to me since nobody has given a reason on why it shouldn't be like it is now.

I agree that it only makes sense that "Mage Light" (you know, being a light and all) makes the sneaker visible now, but this change doesn't just affect that skill. As I mentioned, stealth detection potions and Camo/Evil Hunter (apparently) also now cause the user to be visible while in sneak.

If this game is suddenly supposed to be internally coherent, I want Power of the Light, projecting a giant beam of light from the sky on top of someone's head, to stop them from cloaking. That would also make sense.

...there I was, sneaking along all ninja-like when suddenly... I cast a frigging flashlight, and absolutely -everyone- could see me all lighted up thanks to the magical disco ball I had become because of this stupid light spell! Why did noone ever tell me that switching on a light makes you obvious to everyone you had been hiding from and such? It was supposed to help me find them, not the other way around as well, stupid darn light...
    ...
...at least that's how it sounds to me.

Does make sense IRL, not ingame, because

you can be alone on a plain field, day time, no tree, no rock, no shrub, wearing an armour in all colors of the rainbow, glowing weapons and gauntlets, with a big dog and a daedric minion as your company. Not necessarily just you, you could be 20 people as well. Stand upright and everybody will see you, crouch, and you are carmouflaged?

Game balance > realism. Thats why we can crouch down and become completely invisible or put 200 siege weapons in our bags.

    lol?

Only tested Radiant Magelight, but... casting Radiant magelight now breaks stealth on yourself.

At least it's now guaranteed to work!!!!

It's an unofficial Bloodport feature. :)

If you're a being who uses magic...wouldn't it be rather illogical to use a "mage light" to find stealth people when it reveals yourself as well? That makes no sense in reality, let alone PVP. The mage light should naturally negate your own presence.

I mean, should we allow poisoned arrows to effect the person shooting them?

    Sure, why not!

I am pretty sure it is a bug. It seems that every skill considered as "ability to detect invisible / stealthed players" (the ones that adds a red eye indicator above your head) when used while stealthed or invisible will break that (un-stealth / un-cloak you).

Patch notes only mentions "a visual effect" and there is nothing there that indicates that it is intended. So it must be bug.
And it is not only Magelight. Expert Hunter (Fighters Guild Skills) has the same effect.

Funny thing is I can cast detect skill first and then I can cast cloak or use invisibilty potion and I am steathed / cloaked while the detect effect last for like 2 - 3 sec.

Seeing how you can cast a destro ulti (eye of storm) and then use invisibility potion / cloak and the whole red circle around you becomes invisible too - more and more I think it is a bug.

That's the myopic focus of someone that spends a lot of time hiding.

However, all forms of detection now break stealth and they don't involve a light.

As for the "why" to "why it shouldn't be like it is now", that's simple... because it was never like that before and it wasn't expressed in the patch notes as a change. It was likely erroneously changed in the patch when they added a visual to detection, but neglected to recall that the abilities affected can be cast from stealth and shouldn't break it.

And what's up with the "red eye" looking icon when you cast it? What's the purpose?

i am glad it finally does break stealth for you to cast it.
constantly being caught in stealth because people sneaking around with mage light was extremely annoying.

    ^Literally LOL’d
Funny that this is still a thing...heheh
