Could or would ZOS provide game stats/analyitcs?

I'm not asking for player population or anything that would expose company secrets, but something along the line of reporting to the community analytics related to skills/classes in the various content types. Like in PvP, for instance, what's the K:D for the different classes. What kills the most? What dies the most? What skills are the highest/lowest damage dealers? Something along these lines would be great to see. I know it's a pipe-dream of a request, but I'd like to see it, because I'm such a data geek.

    It would be interesting, though the data in of itself would need heavy supplementation and filtering in order to be interpretively meaningful. K:D ratios in particular are not... well, they're just not useful. All they do is reflect play style, especially in a game like this. A player who spams AoE everywhere like caltrops will get on the 'kill' credit list for dozens upon dozens of players. It'll hugely inflate their K:D over a player who prefers precision striking or single target attacks. And let's not even talk about healers and tanks, right? :D

    No, any data like that is valuable trade secret. At best it's secret info that could help other MMO studios. At worse, it's info that empowers more forum warriors calling for changes to the game. I agree, it would be interesting to have. It also serves no benefit to ZOS at all and can only bring bad things to ZOS.

    Not saying you're wrong, but facts are facts in this case. The data could also shut down said forum warriors when the data proves their speculations absolutely wrong. Even if it wasn't raw data, but instead ZOS provided some feature in the game that would display top class performances in both PvP or PvE. What skills were used the most (without hard numbers, just top 10 skills or something like that). Really all I'd ask for was something that could put a lot of the forum whiners at bay.

    It wouldn't work that way in practice for a number of reasons. On the level of data, it wouldn't work that way in practice due to the issue I mentioned earlier - additional metadata and filtering is needed for such data to be interpretively meaningful. Good analytics require a precisely defined sample frame designed to answer a particular question. Ideally this is done without disingenuous intent, but one can also spin the data to say whatever you want it to say if you draw your parameters or sample frame a particular fashion. For example, I'm almost positive that if one failed to filter out botters the most used class would be sorcerer and the most used abilities would sorcerer pets and lightning form. :D

    And then there's the reasons why I wouldn't work on the level of the human animal - a creature primarily driven by emotions and feelings, not data and logic. No amount of data will stop naysayers. People don't care what the data says or what the facts are - their personal interests and indignation is more important. Case in point - look at the history of the tobacco industry and the fossil fuel industry. The same thing plays out with games, only on a much more innocuous level.
