Amateurs

I'm starting to get the impression that Zenimax is an amateur operation, is it just a few guys in a bedroom somewhere? Seriously, a website with a queue to get on? Congratulations, you've managed to defeat the entire concept of the internet. If your site can't cope with the capacity, then at the very least you've planned very poorly (or not at all). The queue system doesn't even work ("the line is paused" = genius).

On the plus side, the video you get when you click on "What is this?" is hilarious and probably the high point of my Sunday so far (yes, that's very sad).

Another reason I'm thinking there's nothing credible behind this company is the lack of support. Forum community liaison? Nah, let them get on with it. Support ticket? Just send out an automated response which is probably irrelevant to the problem. Has anyone actually talked to a human being at this company?

Quote:

"We won’t be passing off your ticket to a Dwemer Automaton. Real, live humans with hopes and dreams of becoming Emperor will receive your Help Ticket. Please be kind."

Fixed:

"We will send an automated response and hope it fixes your problem. If it doesn't, tough shizzle."

I won't even bother getting into the many bugs unfixed, the lack of general communication, etc. Talking the talk is one thing, delivering is something else.

Maybe hire a few more humans and get a few more servers (not Commodore 64s) instead of doing everything on the cheap - just a thought.

It's pretty laughable that their website would ever require a queue; it's pretty easy to distribute excess load on web apps with cloud computing.

Edit: I got an update from the queue
Expected arrival time on the website: 9:44 AM You can access the website in: 38 minutes

I wasn't going to say it, because I hate it when people say this kind of thing, but it's a fact that I do actually run a hosting platform with around 2,000 sites on a grid hosting platform. There is NO excuse for a website to have a queue system - none. You estimate demand and build accordingly. Amateur is the only way to describe this, they should be ashamed. And someone should probably be sacked.

    .

I just saw this for the first time. I am having very few issues with the game, but the comms and support coming from Zenimax I *do* have an issue with.

I am enjoying the game but a big part of me is thinking I shall not be subbing to this product out of principle. Companies that do not step up to the plate in customer service do not deserve customers. It's only by hitting them where it hurts - the wallet - that they will change their mentality.

Bugs, release overloads etc, yes, understandable in a large game. Crap customer facing attitude and poor design of even the website, never understandable and certainly never acceptable.

You are quite correct, an cloud hosted web-platform would simply scale up resource automatically as required and then scale it down again. Being as they only pay for dynamic resource consumed it's not even expensive. It's certainly a lot cheaper than loss of subs from customers getting turned off by the poor WWW experience - their interface into Zenimax.
