I craft for guild mates only. For free. Sometimes I don’t have enough purple upgrade mats so that’s the only restriction I have.

I don’t respond to much requests in zone and I keep my friends list clear. It used to give me a lot of anxiety to decline friend requests but not anymore. I’m just not interested in someone messaging me when I log on.

If we were known as our characters and not our accounts then I’d have a full friends list on my healer/crafter so when I want to be alone I’d jut log into my other alts.

You did good op. Much more than I would have done for a stranger in zone chat

I made some dude Purple Juli and Innert Axiom, including blue jewelry for free to help him get started, 2 days later he messaged me for more gear. I told him I didnt have the gold or mats for the jewelry, plus I was in the middle of a trial, and after a back and forth he took me off his friends list, blocked me, and stayed in the Guild I invited him in. Scrub in it's prime.

Lmao, this was hilarious and I can totally see this happening to myself. I get bored sometimes and will respond to these crafting requests because every once in awhile people are really appreciative and it ends up being a good interaction. But the other day I crafted someone 2 full sets, improved, glyphed out and everything for free. He doesn't say thank you just, "I need 30k please and motifs" I said dude I just crafted you 2full sets for free. I wait to see his response and it's, "motifs??". I sent him the 30k and all the basic racial styles, still no "thank you". This is why I will not craft for random people anymore. :(

I was grinding dolmen yesterday trying to satisfy my OCD maxing skills and morphs I will never use. But I figure I’d be more apt to play with my build if all the skills are maxed on my class and weapons and guild lines. But I digress.

Someone rightfully asked the group to despawn the bankers and merchants. They add to lag and do stand in the way when you’re spamming the use button to loot things.

Well holy smokes. Lol. The war or words that ensued was epic. Both sides acting like children being intentionally daft. The kind of gas lighting daft you see among the children these days.

This stuff is mind boggling sometimes.

“Well I don’t get it it, if your accidentaly activating my merchant I have had out the last ten minutes for no reason, that is totally a ‘you’ problem. Really, in all my years I’ve never experienced this before when there are 40 polygon figures clustered and clipping together by the chest, no one has ever accidentally activated my merchant or banker. Nope most definitely you’re just an idiot and I’m not despawning my merchant”

That level of stupid is why I have stopped participating in chat in this game. I troll the forums as a ban here isn’t the end of the world. I don’t want to waste my time and money losing my ESO account because I got into an argument with a salty bot hunter that didn’t like that I went afk near a resource node.

Lol. Your story is amusing. Good advice for those just starting out. I stopped being helpful in zone chat months ago. Same kind of experience as you describe.

    UPDATE!

Today I logged in to find....32 mails from them...every mail was a random assortment of materials they'd picked up, from random runes to provisioning items...some mats to refine...and he was very polite. I get the feeling he was really trying, with his limited knowledge. So I went ahead and made his CP160 purple gear. Ended up making him 5 Orgnums Scales and 4 Willows Path, he had said he wanted tanky health gear with regen (no other info besides that). And he wanted them all with training. So I made him the best I could make him.

When he recieved the armor all he said was that the armor was 'incredible'. I gotta admit this made me grin a little. I hope this set gets him through his adventures.

Well if he gets too needy, I do know when to say enough is enough. I genuinely enjoy helping others with gear, to me, it makes the investment worth it. Crafting itself isn't hard, its the collection of mats, styles, style mats, refining, research...and to only use it for myself gets boring.

I always try to help out newer players but sometimes I just don't get people lol. Once A player joined a guild I was in, and asked how to get a certain food recipe, I told him to buy it easily in a guild store but he didn't full understand, so I bought it for him instead, then gave him advice on how to level provisioning. Later he said he no longer needs the recipe and that he sent it back to me in the mail, I checked but it wasn't their but I didn't mind anyway. About 5 mins later he asks me if I recieved it and I said no but it's fine, then he calls me a liar, and tells me I shouldn't do that to people, and hasn't spoken to me since...

I feel this on a deep spiritual level.

    In other words, yeah.

ETA: this type of thing happens to me way too often. It’s my own fault, really. I recently spent a ton of my own gold and mats gearing someone up and helping them with a build. A week later they were like, “Thanks but I’m uninstalling. The game sucks, lol.” It seemed like they couldn’t figure out basic combat.

......can I get a reimbursement on my mats? My own fault.

Sounds like you found Forrest Gump's brother, Op. He's gonna be your new best friend for life. xD

You did your good deed for the month :)

Year. Read it again, it's the good deed of the year.

Tbh, sometimes I also behave like that. One night I was exploring the map with a rather new toon, collecting shards and so. A noob asked for detailed advice in chat and I helped out. Although I did not end up crafting gear (because another player offered free crafting), we talked a lot about how to chose it. Some random gamer who read the chat too was so impressed that they sent me 15k for my effort.

    I never expected that. B)

Well, Im a Master Crafter overall including Jewelry and know pretty much most of the Motifes, including Grin Harlequin and Tsaechi. The first thing i whisper to anyone asking for crafting is to please send me a mail with Set, Lvl, Quality, Style and if they have mats, if it is cp160, then, if needed i direct them to websites that state how much mats they need. If they say, i pay you i say sure, but i go to the next Trader on my Route, i dont care what they charge, so, its better you shop around, as i play the Game not be on work. Also, i remind people that dont have mats that a cp160 full Gear can easily cost you 15k to 20k in Mats alone, that it isnt cheap, that this is only the pure Matcost, look, for example, at Ancestor Silk on PC/NA, a Stack(200) can easily go for 8800 Gold, and most of you know that for lets say 5 light Armour Pieces, you need roughly 600 alone of Ancestor Silk, so, 15k to 20k in matcost isnt even realistic anymore most of the Time. I try to be friendly and helpfull, but if someone takes the Mickey, i direct them to helpfull Sites, wish a nice Day and get just on with it

By this point I have the amounts for cp160 gear memorized, because, although I do under cp160 gear for free without asking for mats, due to the amounts needed I ask for mats for the cp160 items. There's a site I'll link for people, if they ask in advance that lets them see what is needed. For everything I improve to blue free; if they want it purple or higher they have to give me the tempers.

This is mainly a problem imo, if you're a nice, polite and attentive type of person that can't say "no". Than you can't help yourself, you have to whisper back and keep helping, because that's what you do in other situations outside of gaming.

More "normal" people don't have this problem at all, because they basically just type that they're busy, stop responding and ignore the newbie lol. They're not worried about coming across as rude, unhelpful or whatever.

I also have major issues saying "no" and such, so I stay far away from whispering newbies. I've done it in the past and you just get bombarded with various requests for hours(sometimes days), wasting an entire evening typing back and forth and exchanging materials etc.

I swear the people I keep running into these days are going to make me go grey prematurely :(

I decided to take a chance and respond to someone needing a "dedicated crafter" in zone. I need gold so why not. Anyways the person ends up being someone who didn't understand much about the game, and wanted a set of armor and jewelry that were dropped sets and not craftable, so he ended up wanting basic non-set training armor and crafted jewelry, and enchants for everything...in CP150. I tried to suggest some sets but just made them exactly what they wanted to save time. Then they proceeded to pay me with the armor they had equipped prior...some green calcinium stuff...and a handful of random materials, and 2k.

They then asked me if they could, in essence, pre-pay for future armor with random stuff from their inventory...hence why he asked specifically for a 'dedicated' crafter in zone. I explained how materials weren't cheap for CP160, and explained how improvement materials worked, and how they were expensive, and how they should just save gold, and sell. I even invited them to a guild so they could sell stuff to start making money. They then proceed to ask me if I would list stuff for sale for them in my guild and give them money...when I invited them to join my guild so they could use the store to make money, they didn't want the guild to get a cut of profits, so they immediately left the guild...and then he asked if I was turning him down, on the selling his stuff thing, and I ended up feeling bad and telling him that once a week or so he could sell me random stuff for gold so he could make some money to fund his CP160 armor.

Then...it got weirder...he then proceeded to ask me how to cure his Lycanthropy, then get re-infected with it by me afterward! He didn't have enough gold to pay the Priest in the Mages Guild though...the 600 gold needed...so I just decided to do him a 1 time favor and give him 10k to hold onto or spend, just so he had a little bit to hold onto. Then I showed him where the Priest was. He went, cured it, then asked me for a bite. I have literally no idea why he wants this at this point, but decided to relog to my WW and bite him. I went to the shrine to wait for him...and he asks me to wait while he relogs to do something to his ram? Anyways I told him to ride to me, get the bite, then relog. He gets said bite. He goes to do the quest.

Anyways, that was yesterday, and today, when he was on, he was still in the Hunting Grounds quest area, after being there for like 2 hours the day before. I get messaged about how his armor is getting broken in, apparently he's happy. I casually ask him what weapon is on his second bar....to discover he had never ever used a second bar, that he was doing a 'paladin' thing...as a Nord DK. He eventually stopped whispering me today...I can only guess what tomorrow has in store for my new...friend?

Anyways...never take requests for a 'dedicated' crafter in Auridon zone...just don't....

    giphy.gif

    lmao

The funniest part was when the guy left the guild because he didn't want them to get a cut of the profits when he sold something after asking you to be his trade slave.

You're right though, responding to zone queries can be a dubious proposition.

Once in Craglorn there was this person asking if someone would craft them a Nirnhoned armor and said he had the fortified nirncrux already. So I said sure. Then he proceeded to tell me I would have to send him 10k gold first just in case I was planning to scam him.

    😂😂😂🤣🤣
