I swear the people I keep running into these days are going to make me go grey prematurely :(

I decided to take a chance and respond to someone needing a "dedicated crafter" in zone. I need gold so why not. Anyways the person ends up being someone who didn't understand much about the game, and wanted a set of armor and jewelry that were dropped sets and not craftable, so he ended up wanting basic non-set training armor and crafted jewelry, and enchants for everything...in CP150. I tried to suggest some sets but just made them exactly what they wanted to save time. Then they proceeded to pay me with the armor they had equipped prior...some green calcinium stuff...and a handful of random materials, and 2k.

They then asked me if they could, in essence, pre-pay for future armor with random stuff from their inventory...hence why he asked specifically for a 'dedicated' crafter in zone. I explained how materials weren't cheap for CP160, and explained how improvement materials worked, and how they were expensive, and how they should just save gold, and sell. I even invited them to a guild so they could sell stuff to start making money. They then proceed to ask me if I would list stuff for sale for them in my guild and give them money...when I invited them to join my guild so they could use the store to make money, they didn't want the guild to get a cut of profits, so they immediately left the guild...and then he asked if I was turning him down, on the selling his stuff thing, and I ended up feeling bad and telling him that once a week or so he could sell me random stuff for gold so he could make some money to fund his CP160 armor.

Then...it got weirder...he then proceeded to ask me how to cure his Lycanthropy, then get re-infected with it by me afterward! He didn't have enough gold to pay the Priest in the Mages Guild though...the 600 gold needed...so I just decided to do him a 1 time favor and give him 10k to hold onto or spend, just so he had a little bit to hold onto. Then I showed him where the Priest was. He went, cured it, then asked me for a bite. I have literally no idea why he wants this at this point, but decided to relog to my WW and bite him. I went to the shrine to wait for him...and he asks me to wait while he relogs to do something to his ram? Anyways I told him to ride to me, get the bite, then relog. He gets said bite. He goes to do the quest.

Anyways, that was yesterday, and today, when he was on, he was still in the Hunting Grounds quest area, after being there for like 2 hours the day before. I get messaged about how his armor is getting broken in, apparently he's happy. I casually ask him what weapon is on his second bar....to discover he had never ever used a second bar, that he was doing a 'paladin' thing...as a Nord DK. He eventually stopped whispering me today...I can only guess what tomorrow has in store for my new...friend?

Anyways...never take requests for a 'dedicated' crafter in Auridon zone...just don't....

Yeah, but usually when someone asks for a dedicated crafter, they want a 9 trait with style knowledge..not..whatever that guy wanted :s

    lmao

The funniest part was when the guy left the guild because he didn't want them to get a cut of the profits when he sold something after asking you to be his trade slave.

You're right though, responding to zone queries can be a dubious proposition.

Once in Craglorn there was this person asking if someone would craft them a Nirnhoned armor and said he had the fortified nirncrux already. So I said sure. Then he proceeded to tell me I would have to send him 10k gold first just in case I was planning to scam him.

The healing done in the score overview only counts healing done to other group members. It also does not count overheal.

Oof. The feels OP, the feels... I only rarely, and very warily respond to crafting requests and only actually craft for folks who provide their own mats these days. Otherwise its far too painful...

And if folks ask me for set suggestions I'm just like, "Nope, you gotta tell me what you want." I won't suggest anything for a build cause my version of optimized and theirs are usually vastly different... >-<

This is both hilarious and terrifying :'D

But honestly, I pretty much only respond to guild requests and often only if someone directly asks me because I just want people to know what they want before coming to me... And even then it's not guaranteed lol. I don't mind helping! But I don't even do high end content much please stop asking me for gear advice, I'll just give you whatever Alcast says in that case :'''D

I'll whisper to ask what they want. If its too ridiculous, I just lie and say I can't make that.

I will make gear for newbies sometimes, invite them to a good guild, show up to help them in a dungeon or delve after they've joined the guild, but there is a limit.

I limit myself just with occasional porting them to other zones, biting those who know why they want it or helping to understand the mechanics of dungeons. The last point is rather non-voluntary tho, but pugs are pugs.
Got irritated only once when joined the pug where previous dps rage quit. I almost did the same after seeng a tank who was dying every 1 min and not even applying debufs and a healer who was healing the boss instead of group (yes, it's possible due to mechanics of the Direfrost Keep. They couldn't break free. IDK why....). Thanks to my and other dps guy's patience (never though I would have to explain to a tank how to debuff) it ended well eventually, but I guess I should just requeue next time if I run into such a group.

I can see about a dozen points in that narrative where I would have cut my losses and been like "okay cool gotta go, good luck with everything" and nope'd on out of further involvement. :D

I can understand the desire to be nurturing, though, especially with someone who's so far off base with pretty much everything about the game. But I feel like if you're not getting anywhere, it's not worth the loss of sanity trying to accommodate them.

I did this once at the beginning of the game, and just explaining the options and upgrade process to another player who wasn't interested in the crafting system and had no knowledge about it took way too much game time and typing to be worth the modest return. For me crafting is just a personal thing I do for myself, I wouldn't bother to craft something for someone I didn't know again, and likely only do it for friends as a favor. I think most people look at crafting this way too.

Damn OP, your story straight up gave me anxiety. Thankfully, I haven't experienced anything tedious or terrible at that kind of level, YET. Sometimes I actually do response when people ask in the zone chat for crafted stuff, and they always were quite pleasant dealings, quick to the point, and the person asking were always thankful.

... let's pray it stays that way, good lord, mate.

I tend to assume that if I respond to a request to craft something I'm committing myself to explaining how the crafting system works and the approximate cost/difficulty of finding materials - more so than actually crafting something because sometimes it turns out what they want is impossible, or they have no idea what they want.

But I don't mind doing that. I'm actually more worried they'll want something I don't have the skills to make (which is slowly becoming less of an issue), or which requires a crafting station that's hard to get to and I'll have to turn them down, because then I feel like I've wasted both our time.

I won't do vague crafting jobs though. I don't even know what's good for my characters, I just pick the best of what I have available or sets which sound interesting, I'm not going to choose for other people I don't even know. Tell me you want a level 10 blue quality redguard training sword and I'll make it. Tell me you want "a really good sword" and you're on your own.

I don't mind crafting but I normally charge atleast 10k upfront before I craft gear and they have to provide all CP160 mats this deters 9/10 of every "noob whisper" I craft free for friends and guildmates I run the Grand Master Crafter title poudly.
