As an avid furnishing recipe collector, house owner, decorator and furniture seller, I would like to share my thoughts of the current situation on the furnishing aspect of the game, and future directions I hope the game will take.
First of all, after some extensive purchases and hunting, I am now down to missing my final 13 furnishing recipes or so in the entire game. The last ones are extremely frustrating to find, for me as for everyone else.
Clockwork recipes
I am currently missing 3 CWC recipes, 2 of which are Fabricant trees. The recent boost to recipe dropping in DLC areas was nice, it made these recipes go from completely unfindable to at least findable but rare. Even still, some of the recipes I bought had not been seen in 140+ days (I check via MM, and I'm in 5 of the largest trade guilds on my server). I do think that 1 recipe for 140 days on an entire megaserver is unsatisfying. The Fabricant tree recipes are even rarer than the other CWC recipes. The green ones have a droprate comparable to purple recipes, though they should be rather common, being green recipes. And the purple trees are almost impossible to find.
Basically, shortly after CWC DLC was released, there was a recipe bonanza, partially because the Fabricant mobs dropped excessive amounts of recipes until it was fixed, and in the 1 million story event in ESO, the recipes dropped everywhere in the reward boxes. After that, it has been an extreme scarcity of these recipes, until at least now we get a trickle of them when the droprate was upped.
I don't think this system is very fair, to have the droprate be massive in a short period of time (the stories event) and then nothing for almost a year after that. The CWC 1 year anniversary is up soon, and I suggest adding some better droprates for then. CWC is a massive pain to farm recipes, there are so very few containers there that can drop recipes, and even still, 7 times out of 8, you draw a base game trash recipe instead of a CWC one.
I've spent countless hours there myself, and only have 1 single purple CWC recipe and 2 blue and 3 green to show for it. Considering the lack of containers, you could at least make the recipes drop from the lockboxes, or the NPCs there, as currently there is no reliable way to farm these.
Voucher containers, like the Vvardenfell ones, for blue and purple would also be welcome. We should get voucher containers for all chapters and DLC after some time.
Dwarven and Ayleid recipes
I am missing about 5 purple Dwarven recipes, and so are a lot of other people. The dwarven tables and pew are pretty much impossible to find on our entire megaserver. Farming the Dwarven dungeons is not yielding these recipes, it barely yields the blue variants. The droprate of these recipes is obviously out of touch, especially when you compare to the Daedric recipes, which are common and cheap as dirt (apart from the Daedric fence). Droprate should definitely be upped on these ones, and make it so Dwarven zones only drop Dwarven recipes, and not base game trash recipes. There is already a huge cost in the Dwarven frames necessary for the recipes, there is no reason to have these extremely minuscle droprates for the Dwarven purples. I know a lot of other recipe hunters are frustrated about the handful of Dwarven purples that everyone lacks.
The same goes for the Ayleid recipes, especially the 3 purples. The droprate is so small and the loottable polluted with other base zone recipes, that you would have to farm these dungeons for weeks on end to even have a chance for any of them. I have not seen any Ayleid recipes for sale in any guild traders ever, and they have been here for more than one and a half year or almost two.
Blackmarrow table
Dont even know what to say about this one. Don't think we've seen a single one drop on the entire PC-EU megaserver. It's not even that interesting an item. Why does it have to be impossible to find?
Alinor and Culanda LaqueurI already made a thread about this that gathered much attention.
While the Alinor recipes are reasonable to find, at least while people farm them like crazy, the requirement of 2 Culanda for each and every recipe, while the
only source for the item is a dropchance from the daily quests, is very bad game design. There is a Culanda crisis on my server, with almost no Culandas for sale anywhere, even with prices at 3-4k per item. It kills furnishing trade, so we can't sell the items to others, it even kills my own furnishing crafting. It will take me 1.400 Culandas to make the 700 items to put in the Aldmeris Grotto. That's beyond absurd, and I didn't buy the Grotto partially due to that. Not only are you killing the possible enjoyment of these items, you also kill your own sales with it.
If you insist on keeping the recipe costs, then Culanda should be available from other sources. Decon'ing of item sets, Summerset overland zone, daily random dungeon rewards etc etc. It is also frustrating to see the furnishing team go in a hundred different directions. Vvardenfell recipes all required Obsidian, a base mat that can be bought at vendors. Fair and good. CWC recipes required only 1 Brass mat, and that mat can be found all over the zone from decon'ing sets. Also fair and good. And now we have like 100 recipes that all require TWO style mats that can ONLY be found at a CHANCE when opening the daily quest reward coffers. That's not fair and not fun for anyone. Pick a direction and stick with it, instead of introducing new formulas every time a new DLC drops.
Jewelrycrafting mats
This leads us directly into the jewelrycrafting housing recipes. They suffer from the same Alinor problem as above. For some reason you made the jewelry upgrade tempers extremely hard to come by, which you did for reasons regarding the actual equipment (rings and necklaces). Most people disagree with that, but no matter. However, due to that decision, you also made jewelrycrafting HOUSING recipes practically impossible to make. TWO full gold upgrade tempers to make the Altmer clock. TWO full purple tempers to make any purple jewelrybox or scrimshaw, and TWO full blue upgrade mats to make even a simple blue jewelrycrafting item. Not to mention many of them require to Culandas on TOP of the upgrade tempers. This is the unfortunate result of you mixing upgrading tempers for equipment with furnishing materials. And jewelrycrafting furnishing items suffer as a result. I check all the large traders on my server, and I never see any jewelrycrafting housing items for sale anywhere. Why would I, with material costs of 40-80k per item, and 120k+ for the gold clock. I can't even make more than a handful of items of these myself, for my own needs, despite having farmed a lot of dust by now. If you meant to make these items practically impossible to make, well you succeeded. Why did the housing recipes have to suffer because you wanted to make equipment upgrading a PITA?
So, summing up my suggestions for future changes for housing and furnishings:
- Increase the droprate for CWC, it is already extremely hard to farm here compared to Summerset and Vvardenfell
- Introduce voucher furnishing documents to Clockwork City, and eventually Summerset. All DLC should get these eventually
- Increase droprate for Dwarven and Ayleid recipes. Right now they are pretty much nonexistant on my entire megaserver
- Make Culandas more available outside the daily quests. The supply for these cannot keep up with the demand at all
- Jewelrycrafting housing recipes shouldn't require 2 full upgrade mats to make. Don't punish jewelrycrafting housing items because you want to keep the ring/necklace upgrading exponentially harder than the other crafts
