Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Really...why does it take 6 months to fully leveling riding?

    Simple solution to this:

You can train each of the lines once per day. Cuts the 6 months down to 60 days and still keeps it from being TOO easy.

They want you playing the game for a long time. If you got everything you wanted quickly youd get bored and drop it a few months in.

Also lay off the devs, you sound like a rebellious child.

what else in this game takes 6 months to level?

9 trait crafting on every thing takes a little over a year if you are very diligent.

But yeah, in terms of stuff you use everyday, mount training is an outlier.

yeah...crafting does take time...but you have options with that...you can train certain things you want most....you can hire other crafters to make stuff...you can buy from guild traders...you can level different things on different characters...you have lots of viable options with that.

Honestly, outside of PvP, once you get 30 speed on your mount, everything else can take its time. I'm almost done leveling riding fully on my stam warden. He is still level 30. I'm going to be making a stamplar as soon as I figure out a name for them. And then I'll train riding on them as well. I've done it on every character and I've never paid for a riding lesson (though I'm not unhappy when I get one in the free crates). As others have said, get Rapid Maneuvres as soon as you are level 10 and that will help a lot with speed.

    I agree..

There is a really simple reason for this and its right in front of everyone’s faces. They want you to log in every day

lol...and you really think that? ...content...daily prizes...enjoyable things are what make people log in everyday...they do this to make money by overcharging riding lessons in the overpriced crown store...that is why they do it...lets just say you have 12 characters...that takes at least 20 minutes if you want to spend the time to train all 12 characters in riding...you think that type of thing is what people like and they keep coming back to? That is what makes people play this game? You think that is what ZOS wants is for people to log in and train riding? Ok...you sure do have things figured out.

You obviously didn’t play before crown store or daily rewards.... or you’re just not smart

I beta tested the game, I played for a little after launch, I stopped playing because of all the issues the game had...I started playing again fairly recently...the game is much improved compared to it's former self but still has its issues (one of those things being the subject of this post)....However, what does that have to do with anything? Just because it was a worse design during beta and launch doesn't make it a good design now....I'm all for supporting this game and paying for the game, content and a subscription...but what they are doing in the crown store is just ridiculous and riding is linked to it...I'm just shocked that people are so foolish to support that aspect of this game. You can buy the basic game for $10 and have everything that is included with that but they will charge you $180 if you want to level up your riding skill on one character to max? ...and idiots are supporting them on that? Support them for their game and content and things that are worth supporting them on...not on that crap (and that goes for all that crap in the crown store)...do you realize that us as consumers dictate the direction this game goes? If nobody paid for crowns to buy the extremely overpriced things they offer in the crown store they would adjust it...you might actually get some value for your money...but society is full of fools and they are perfectly willing to take advantage of them.

To make you spend crowns on it.
So ZOS can make more profit from ESO.
    Duh.
    Welcome to capitalism!

On the bright side... without ZOS being greedy for ESO profits, and all the other game companies like that, all we'd get to play would be Tetris.

Also, be happy they changed the thing to riding training. At launch, you had to feed each mount seperately, for each character. So if you upgraded to a shiny new black horse after training the brown one... you had to start feeding it all over again. If you bought a new brown horse on your alt, it was not the brown horse you fed on your main, but a newly raised brown horse you -still- had to feed up to spec all over again. And so on... it -really- is much better now... whewre you can train once, and then stop worrying about it.

You don't need a capped mount to PvP. It helps, but it's not the absolute requirement some make it out to be.

You'll arrive at the fight a little later (you're probably not ready to front line, anyway, at that point), you'll have to ride a little more cautiously (Don't expect to hold sprint the entire time.) And inventory capacity is a non-issue, since there's nothing to loot anyway.

Throw on rapids, be a little more defensive, and level your mount as you grab shards, books, skills, and gear.

It's really not that big of a deal.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

Because many players really didn't want to have to buy at least three different horses for each character, that were only special for one stat, like speed OR inventory OR stamina, and only after feeding them one type of food to boost the stat you wanted, and hopefully not make a mistake on whether Dobbin1 needed oats, or was it apples, or maybe hay or was that supposed to be Dobbin2? If you made a mistake, you couldn't undo it, so your mount would never max out that one stat.

Training all three stats on one character lets that character use any mount and get the same result.

Not to mention how much complaining/ranting/arguing would result in having the different mounts with the various stats in the crown store and various prices for them. If the grey sabercat is faster than the Christmas horse, should it cost more, or less? Why should I have to buy the Christmas horse if I want more stamina, but I don't like the way it looks/don't like the horses at all and want the grey sabercat with stamina instead of speed? Or, for that matter, if I want only one mount, but I want speed, stamina, and inventory space; how many crowns would that cost?

this is the main reason why I no longer create a new character. for a pvp player it's really boring. creating a new character should be exciting but on the contrary it is the kind of thing that discourages. can we have fun creating a new character?

    Personally, I don't bother training stamina. But I'm not a pvp'er.

re: train the mount, not the character..... eh, having different mounts be a 'cosmetic' thing, probably sells more crowns than mount training books. If people had to train every mount, no one would bother collecting a dozen+ mounts. Because they'd have to train every one. And every new mount that popped up (bought, daily login, free crown crate, paid crown crate, etc) would be another training to start. Just doing it once per character is far far better for a "lots of mounts" setup.

And they want it to be a "lot of mounts" system, because mounts clearly make them a ton of $. They're the only reason to buy lots of crown crates, mounts come with every DLC Collector Edition, mounts are clearly a big thing for a lot of the playerbase. Individual mount training would be a big hit to that system.

Here's the general crown store business model:
    • Durables
    • Consumables
The mount (durable) and training (consumable) pair well together from a commercial perspective. The design is deliberate and intentional - and it isn't going to change. If you want change, then you need to change.

It's that simple. Stop wasting energy on it.

When I was levelling my new alt I was always putting enough 120 champion points for The Thief, The Tower, to "improve the mastery with mounts, removing all stamina costs outside of combat" - War Mount passive.
That way no need for levelling stamina riding, can focus only on speed.

Crown store or eso+ perk. Either would work to increase demand for it.
