Mounted combat

I just think it would be cool. Would it be easy to balance? Would it be useful? Would anyone want it added?

I dont have the answers to these questions. I think it'd be fun though. Anyone have any opinions?

No it will ruin the game like it ruined other MMOs when it was introduced

Eh... what other MMO has mounted combat?

That question side, I dont think mounted combat would really be as cool as it sounds. It would either be a useless gimmick or it would be gamebreakingly OP.

I know that Age of Conan has mounted combat. I think it's pretty cool. I have no idea about it "ruining" any other mmo's *rolls eyes*

Not to worry. So much would have to be changed to add this it is not likely Zos would give it serious consideration.

More effort than it's worth, in my opinion. You'd need a large number of new animations for using each exiting weapon type, and mechanisms to handle loss of mount, even if you take the sensible option of not allowing a player to mount up if he's already in combat. Then there's the question of whether the mount itself can join in. My character rides a large fierce bear. It would shred your horse.

tldr; too big a change, too little benefit.

In an ideal world ESO would have trample damage for riding over enemies and consumable spear items or a spear skill line to counter mounted players.

Ariel Mounted combat. If not at least high jumping ariel mounted combat. Come on, playing Joust would be awesome.

Considering they're nerfing speed because of issues with being able to hit your target reliably, this just doesn't make sense.

    It would be nice.

Do you know the third Sorcerer bar, which will be removed? Or the bar when you become a werewolf?

So... When you ride a horse, a new bar appears: for example, you can slot Rapid Maneuver and other four abilities.

    You can't switch bars.

Attack done by players doesn't reduce Stamina Horse, which only decreases with sprint and monster/NPC attacks.

You know what? I think this could work but it has to be limited changes. They need not overhaul the combat, include new animations, or introduce game-breaking abilities.

    Mounted combat should only include:
    • Range abilities that makes sense when mounted (e.g. poison arrow, etc.)
    • Ranged attacks (No changes since they can already use abilities.)
    • Basic attacks with small AOE radius like 2H passive (Higher Bonus damage modifier or guaranteed crits since melee abilities won't make sense.)
    • Exclusive mount abilities (e.g. Movement modifiers, Charge, Shields/Mount Heal with CC immunity, etc. Effects are removed once dismounted.)
    • Buffs & Non-damage debuffs if there's any? (e.g. Healing abilities.)
    • Mount Health (To avoid premature dismounting but you will also receive direct damage from AOE or direct attacks.)

    Note:
    • Range attacks/Abilities should apply movement penalty debuffs for balancing.
    • Small melee AOE radius because melees would have a much harder time landing their attacks.
    • Either make ultimate greyed out or override ultimate with an exclusive mount ultimate for balancing.
    • Mounts can now be used in combat (duh!) unless mount has zero health but can be regenerated via potions you used. You can only mount again once your mount's health is restored at 100% but mounts also regenerates health by themselves in corresponding to the amount of your health regeneration along with their passive bonuses.

Animation won't be hard to do. The only thing we need to worry is server calculations and we already have too much than the server could handle, that is why people are crying for a major server upgrade.

However, I think ZOS can pull this off. The only question is if they're gonna do it or not because there is zero benefit on this. One of the major reason is, it will be a free update because locking this behind paywall would be considered pay-to-win and I don't see this happening unless ZOS has gone desperate which we won't see until ESO has the numbers.

I'm all for this, imagine how much fun it would be calvary charging into a zerg, even if the mount did no damage it would be awesome light attacking your way through a big group & if you get dismounted you're right in the middle of the fight just like you would be in regular combat. So much fun!!!!!

You know, not a bad idea for a dedicated bar while mounted

I think mounted combat in Age of Conan sucks big time, since every other hit by the passing by elderly lady's umbrella dismounts and effectively stuns you.

I can't have an opinion until i hear more of the suggestion. Let's start from the beginning: what made you bring up the topic? How did you envision it in ESO?

Based on what I know of mounted combat in RTS, it'd take far too much work than ZOS may be willing to put into it. When I use mounted combat in, for example, Total War: Warhammer, I see enemies flying when I charge into them (and hopefully through them so I can pick up momentum). There's weight to it, especially when travelling up or down hills. That's something ESO doesn't have in my opinion - a lot of the game looks and feels floaty, and I can't imagine mounted combat being any different. If mounts looked and felt heavy, they'd contrast against the fast-paced dodging and dicing gameplay of the infantry characters, and would be cut down faster than the horse can do anything, unless the hitboxes for non-mounted characters were even more generous than they already are.

If we ignore the weight and power behind it, we still have to agree that mounted combat must have disadvantages. You mount up because you want speed, more so than a jogging or sprinting character. You've got higher ground and can swing a long melee weapon or be a more mobile archer. If you're moving faster than you can be hit, especially if you're a bowman, you're going to need to be countered in some way. The horse would have to have very little health, which would be useless in melee combat, and if you compensate with armour, the speed drops and then there's no point being on the horse. And if you somehow find a work around, that may create more problems than fixes.

I like the idea, but only that until I see more posts on the subject. ^^
