Hi, I have a huge problem in role respec ..each time i respec cost alot conins.
As we know ,in WoW, a tank does decent DMG, ive leveled many characters on tanks.
But in ESO, a pure tank build does very tinny DMG,when not tanking, you wont be happy ,if doing questing on a tank.
Please help:)

Yes, there are DPS/tank builds, but the harder the content, the more you need to play a pure tank.

I can tank most normal dungeons with a DD who has a taunt and a bit of crowd control, but I also know the normal dungeons really well.

My favorite DPS/tank was a stam sorc, 1h&s/DW or Bow, Thunderbug and Syvarra's Scales and Stormfist. It did a ton of passive AOE damage and was great for when I needed a simple rotation thanjs to lag. BUT, it was really only effective in normal dungeons and easy vet dungeons. For harder content, my pure tank was better because of the additional survivability and the group support.

Well, yes, Solid Off Tanks have a DPS build they switch to when not needed as a tank. It is not uncommon for competitive groups to run that way and take advantage of the extra dps for fights where only one tank is needed.

They change gear and skills for the roll. On PC there are some addons that permit that with the push of a button.

Edit: this is concerning the more challenging content in the game.

Depends what you want to do. There's something called a boom tank that some solo players use. But in most vet group content, that build as a main tank is not going to be too popular with the group. @idk is right, you'd have to run that as an off-tank.

I use 5pc Warrior Poet, 5pc Plague Doctors and 2 Nights Silence daggers.
After buff food, I have 41k health, 31k stam and 20k spell and phys. resistance.
You could also go with 1pc Pirate Skeleton for an extra 3k resist then use Plague Doctors weapons to still have 41k health.

I still have 2700 weapon damage and that goes up past 4k in a dungeon with weapon power potion so can do a fair bit of damage.
I'm quite often the last of the group alive and manage to get everyone up without taking too much damage.
    I've solo'd a few world boss' also.

My main tank - who has done trials and vet dungeons - can basically be a damage dealer for his overland questing with some gear swapping. It's not that hard to do. I don't really think in terms of "builds" as much as I think in terms of characters. But to put things in terms of "build" language, a few general pointers:
    • Most of your attribute points will be in stamina or magicka, rather than health. You'd want to stack stamina if doing a 1h/shield tank, and magicka if doing an ice staff tank. You can use mundus stones to boost the attribute for whatever role you are doing at the time too.
    • Most of your health for tanking will come from item sets and gear. When you are in TankMode, you pick two heavy armor sets and have all enchantments on them go into health (maybe a couple as mag/stam if you need it due to race choices and stuff). Jewelry enchants will be regen or block cost reduction. I like running one set that focuses on adding to health pool, and I also like a set that helps with healing received and damage mitigation.
    • Most of your damage for questing will also come from item sets and gear. When you are in QuestMode, you pick two medium armor sets (or two light armor sets if magicka) and run either all stam or all mag enchants. Jewelry enchants will be weapon/spell damage, maybe regen if you need it. Feel free to run some fun, off-beat sets here because you'll still kill stuff faster with this than in your heavy armor.
    • It's kinda skill point intensive. You'll be learning all passives from two armor lines (heavy armor, plus either medium or light). If stamina, you'll also have at least two weapon lines (my main tank has three).

In before someone says "You can't do this on Axes..."

But seriously, you need to be more specific. Are you looking for one build that does enough DPS to sail quickly through solo content but can also step right in and tank a vet dungeon, hard mode, with a full set of tools (not just a taunt), without changing any gear or skills? Are you at least willing to change gear between solo and group content, even though you'll have to (1) get the additional gear, (2) improve, trait, and enchant it, and (3) set up Dressing Room or something similar for easy swapping? Are you also willing to change skills, thus (1) again having to use Dressing Room or something similar for easy skill bar changes, and (2) possibly compromising muscle memory? And what do you want to tank---normal dungeons? Vet dungeons? Vet DLC dungeons? Trials?

If you want a "no fuss" build that capably and truly tanks all base game dungeons even on vet HM while noticeably helping to clear trash packs and cruising through solo content without ever changing gear or skills (except for the occasional situational replacement, such as Inner Fire), I suggest a Shock Tank. An Ice Tank is decent, too, but it's already a couple notches below the Shock Tank in DPS and headed for a nerf with the impending changes to Arctic Blast.
