It still bugs me that a staff is a 2 hand weapon I hold in 1 hand.

Yes, really.
I understand the game mechanics of needing to restrict classes, and weapons, and all, for balance, but it's still one of those visual things that doesn't add up.

It's like the buildings with peaked rooves and lofty towers with lighted windows you can see from outside, but have an arched ceiling and no access once you get inside.
Show me a tower, I want to go up into the tower.
Show me a ladder, I want to climb the ladder.

;)

I want you to imagine holding two staves at once, now imagine doing a light attack, and now imagine doing a heavy attack. Can you understand it now?

I think that would be cool to show a staff being used with 2 hands.. Not sure if it'd mess up the animations of the class skills or not.

    Oh, I understand it fine.
I hold a Broadsword or 2-handed axe with both hands.

I just think it looks foolish to hold a weapon with one hand and call it a two hand weapon.
The only time 2 hands are involved is while blocking.
At that point, I should be able to swing the staff like a baseball bat, too.

A staff is always meant to be held like a walking stick. You need the other hand to manipulate the powers of Aetherius. Have you ever held a heavy attack with a resto staff or lightning? Can you see how your character moves his other hand? That's what it is

On the flipside, I would be sooooo happy if there was more animations added to the staves. I like the elemental reach animation (you hold the staff with two hands). But it would also be super cool if some class skills had different animations, depending on the weapon behind held.

TL:DR - I WANT MORE ANIMATIONS FOR EVERYTHING!

Because visually, it'd be stupid to make it a 1H weapon. The "handedness" of the weapon correlates with weapon size.

Try blocking with a staff. Then you use 2 hands

    This.

How vexed will you be then to see a character holding a -bow-, yet another two-hands weapon in one hand just because they need the other hand for the arrow, huh? :p;)

The thing about "two handed" is you need two hands to properly -operate- the weapon.

You can -carry- a two-handed sword, axe or mace in a sinmgle hand too, but you will find it extremely difficult to wield that way, because the darn thing is big and heavy, and humans are not -that- strong or massive (would make sense for a giant tho, or something else supernaturally strong)

Same with staves. Just watch the block and attack animations sometime - once your character starts actually using the darn thing, they need the other hand...

I am way more vexed that all magica characters more or less have to "go stick" and pick up a staff if they want to be combat-ready. I would want more options, like... spell foci (stuff like ornate spellbooks, holy symbols, meditation crystals, gemmed skulls shaman rattles, etc.) as alternative (maybe for 10% less range but 10% more damage?).

And even mopre options in different weapon skill lines, like that "one-handed and tune" that sometimes is mentioned to have been considered at some time, and of cource once we'd have that there would be no reason not to also let us duel-wield those runes, yes?

But... been there, posted that: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii ;)

    b88.jpg
    :p;)
(Also, Saruman duel-wields staves in the scene where he "spins" Gandalf. Just saying, those maiar spellslingers seem to be able to ignore such little details and cheatmode stuff, like... soloing a Balrog boss and so on... :p;) )

Still, it might make for a good NPC boss someday, (heck, I am still waiting for some multi-armed foes like harvesters to really get the most out of their many arms... D&D "Marilith" style...) but for run of the mill player characters... let's stick to being reasonable, shall we? ;)

That was the preview animation of the staff last week in one of the crown store packages.
It showed you holding the staff as a spear, with a shield in the off hand.

I would love a staff+shield combo as much as I would love a melee magicka weapon.

Why doesn't the game do that. :(
