I know it will never happen but one of the coolest designs IMO was the hunter in WOW. You could "tame" any wild creature to fight for you and level it up. Anything from a small snake to a sweet a** wolf! Was cool cause, you know, customization.

And thus the necromancer skill line was born. And actually that would make much more sense than a whole necromancer class.
