New Guild Tool Required For Tracking Changes to Member Notes.

A new guild tool should be created that tracks any change to Guild Member Notes (shown in the roster).

This tool should record the member the note change was made to, the time it was changed and the @name who made the change.

This log could then be found under the Guild/History/Guild/Customization tab exactly the same as changes to the "Message of the Day" text.

Justification:
By logging and displaying these changes the new tool would provide Guild Leaders greater flexibility in identifying members who may misuse such features in direct violation of individual Guild ideology and the applicable corrective actions they deem necessary in order to protect their members and guilds from disruptive players.

Secondly, this could reduce the number of support tickets created towards matters that support identifies as the sole responsibility of the Guild Leaders themselves.

I am strongly against this idea. My guild uses its notes system to give anonymous feedback to other players on how they perform in PvP. This is invaluable feedback, but sometimes it can be a be critical. If people knew who were leaving the notes, they might resent that person and drama might ensue. As it is now, it’s a great way to anonymously give feedback that the player can take to improve themselves.

Thank you for your insight and resulting counter to the point I made.

This type of discussion around the subject is exactly what I was looking for.

Should be an option check off that only the officers and guild leaders can see it thought.

Could make it so it's only seen by certain ranks or only seen by gm.

I support this idea. In my trading guild of 480-500 people where guild note edits are allowed any anyone... it would be nice to see who edits notes as there have been incidents of a guild note bandit in the past. I agree that it should be viewable by only certain ranks though.

The game already hangs onto time limited data about the guild bank, sales, and roster history.

In any case, the anonymous nature of guild notes makes it impossible to identify and report a player who wanted to use the guild note system as a tool for harassment in violation of the TOS. Since ZOS Support does not seem willing or able to check the authorship of guild notes, this is a potential loophole for people to break the TOS which should be addressed.

I could support this if viewership of the log could be restricted as suggested above.

I have had issues similar to the one which prompted the OP to start this thread. Member notes were added/changed in violation of guild rules on decorum. Zenimax should provide a tool to enable GMs and designated officers to police disruptive behavior.

Or, just don’t give everybody permissions to change notes.

Characters should only be able to change their own notes, unless they're the GM or an officer as well.

Or just don't invite anyone to the guild.

Or just don't play the game.

Your solution is pretty much what we have now. The topic of this thread is a discussion on how to improve the system. There is clearly room for improvement. Countering by saying "just don't use that system" doesn't really push the discussion forward at all.

That's actually a really interesting idea! Aside from the obvious potential for abuse, I could see how this would make for some really effective feedback channels. Not having to worry about hurt feelings as much when offering critiques would change the game for a lot of us. Thanks for sharing this @Thogard !

Way easier to add extra options to rank permissions:
    Can edit other member notes.
    Can edit own member notes.

I suspect your guild's usage is the exception rather than the rule. Most guilds don't even allow members to edit their own notes because it's an on/off toggle and people abuse it constantly. I only allow officers to edit guild notes in my guild.
