Hardened Ward, Dampen Magic and Bastion need a rework.

Hardened Ward, Dampen Magic and Bastion are now completely useless, because a Magicka Char will generally have enough Magicka to get Empowered Ward and Harness Magicka to the 40% Max Health Cap. So Hardened Ward and Dampen Magic will no longer grant the morph bonus of a stronger shield, it will just be a Morph that gives nothing.

Hardened Ward, Dampen Magic and Bastion should not increase the shield strenght but the Health based cap, make it +20% for Hardened Ward, +25% for Bastion, and Dampen Magic should increase the cap by 3% for each piece of light armor worn. BUT... looking at the Shattering Blows, Bastion should be a counterpoint! Not just Bastion, but Hardened Ward and Dampen Magic as well.
  • Shattering Blows: Increases your damage against targets with a damage shield by [0-25]%.
What is the real counterpoint to Shattering Blows? Yes, something like Protection (Minor/Major Protection) buff! So... This should be the new Bastion effect: Reduces damage taken while using a damage shield ability by [0-25]%.

Hardened Ward, Dampen Magic and Bastion need a rework! After Patch 4.2.2, Empowered Ward and Harness Magicka are the only morph choices. Something needs to be done before Patch 4.2.5 (when go live)!

My sugestion!
  • Bastion: Reduces damage taken while using a damage shield ability by [0-25]%.
  • Hardened Ward (new morph effect): You gain Minor Protection (while the damage shield is active), reducing your damage taken by 8%.
  • Dampen Magic (new bonus effect): Reduces damage taken while the damage shield is active by 1% for each piece of Light Armor worn (totaling 7% with 7 pieces).

    So does shattering blows and shield breaker, and all the bad players who cried for these nerfs in the first place.

    The second i read the 40% it sounded like a number picked out of the air by ZOS without thought to all the other things that affect wards like Bastian.

    I hope we see further changes however the fact wards cap isn't working right on PTS probably means.otherwise as thorough testing hasn't happened.

    Your suggestions at the bottom of your post sound good. Bastion definitely should be reworked to reduce damage taken by a percentage that is equal to Shattering Blows.

    In pve I got 20k health, that means a shield cap of 8k. My shields in pve are currently 14k.
    In pvp I got 25k health, which raises my cap to 10k and my shield goes down to 7k.

    Honestly, that change doesn't look too bad. It just seems strange though that the pet shield morph isn't needed for most pve even though the increased shield size is pointless there too, while pvp is the place where your pets can be killed and you want the bigger shield on yourself.

    Has anyone checked if the shields on your pets are capped to their health or yours? I'm not on PTS unfortunately.

    That Bastion change looks alright to me, although it would be another nerf to my blazing shield templar tank as bigger shield means higher damage. Oh well, ZOS nerfed the damage on that one too, so I guess there is no future for it anyway.
    This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

    This makes for yet another lackluster star for people who don’t PvP though. There are other damage shields in the game that would be impacted by bastion as it is currently.

    The top and bottom of all this is the glaringly obvious fact that Zo$ really doesnt have a clue what to do with there game, they throw this shield cap nonsense out there in response to the hate, yes lets go with hate, that a cast time was causing on the forums.

    Just leave shields alone and do something with the CP system that is clearly the cause of the majority of problems in the game.

    @AhPook_Is_Here I know about it. You did not understand me. I'm not talking about Conjured Ward, Empowered Ward, Annulment and Harness Magicka. If the cap is 40% per shield, fine. I'm talking about the Hardened Ward and Dampen Magic morphs. They are useless. Increasing shield strength doesn't work with cap.

    @Starlock When I suggest to Bastion "Reduces damage taken while using a damage shield ability by [0-25]%", I was thinking of all ESO damage shields, whether they're based on Magicka, Stamina or Health. This is the true counterpoint to Shattering Blows, and not as it is today.

    They should just revert shields fully and leave them as they are for now. It's the main issue behind a lot of changes and stuff functions perfectly fine in non CP environments. Then, they should just work on a CP fix or alternative for the next expansion.

    At the moment pets on PTS are completely useless. They are back to 2014, when one elite NPC hit was enough to kill them and nobody used them.
    People who linked screenshots showing pets health, have shown their current shield is 3 (three, not a typo), that is, so much broken you cannot know how they'd do if they were unbugged.
