If you see a zone chat being extremely toxic/abusive, how do you deescalate the tensions in chat?

I drown it out with political trolling. I'll type something like "Go Trump" or "Obama was a communist", just to get the ball rolling. Usually that results in a lively political debate that drowns out any offensive comments.

If that doesn't work, and the banter is offensive (racist, homophobic, etc.), I target the offending party with some direct, personalized trolling.

Don't mind that coughing over there in the corner-- it's just my soul finally dying. :s This kind of stuff is what filled my ignore list and why I keep all variants of chats turned off.

Now I'm wondering if you're on my ignore list LOL

I talk sh@t with the best of them. Truly, I just want to be left alone. However, if you say something slick to ME, I NEVER stop. If anything I’ve been known to ESCALATE things.

Best lil nerds to play your lil game and REALLY leave me alone because I about a petty and spiteful as they come.

On Xbox I simply block annoying and/or toxic keyboard warriors...most are trolls anyway so simply don’t feed them.

Can't say I ever really notice zone chat being extremely toxic/abusive in ESO though.

It's stupid, silly or confrontational at times, but not to such a degree that I finds it offensive. But maybe I'm messed up from other games(with far more toxic populations), and therefor have a higher tolerance when it comes to *** talk.

I have no problems taking screenshots and reporting people in mmos though, if they're being extremely toxic/abusive to such a degree that others feel really uncomfortable. I think it's the best way, since they need to learn the hard way.

They wont stop with verbal abuse because you tell them to or try to argue with them. The reply is normally "welcome to the Internet" or some other cliche. But if they get a few days ban, they tend to behave after that. Mmorpg servers aren't exactly "the Internet" anyhow, since we all signed the Terms Of Service, when creating accounts.

Yep. Once you enter the realm of ZOS (forums, in-game, events, etc.) your rights as a citizen are limited. You can try to exercise your freedom of speech but it's really at the discretion of ZOS what they will (and won't) allow.

Stir the pot and tell your friends there's a fight and to travel to you - even better if it's in area chat on console and you can listen to it.

I turn it off. If someone is determined to be a trolling attention ***, nothing I can do or say is going to dissuade them, because any attention is good attention to them. I can't make them any less thirsty, and I refuse to let my leisure time be ruined by someone like that.
