This is a game mode that is made significantly better by just having 2 teams, the 3 way component of BG's coupled with the general 'avoid PVP' player mentality ruins those games.
Team A - Go to Team B and attack their flag in a 4v4
Team B - Stay at base to defend said flag in a 4v4
Team C - Turn up at B, see A&B fighting, go to A, pick up uncontested relic and cap - A&B both lose a point.
It's a game mode that with 3 teams, only serves to promote the hide and seek style of play, the non stop sprinting and the avoidance of actual PVP combat.
A game mode where you're punished for being engaged in any solid PVP (Becomes increasingly punishing as team's/MMR skill rises and fights between teams last longer)

I hate it. Wrote a thread on it recently. It’s either over in less than two minutes (which is fine if you’re on the winning team, albeit boring), or it drags on right until the freaking end. Utterly pointless and I usually just drop group when I get it and log into another character to wait out the penalty.

If you only like deathmatch and even abondon your team if you go random and not get server what you want, why not just que for deathmatch instead. ***.
