Hirelings mechanics

I like the concept of the hirelings. You spend some skill points and hire these people that send you a small amount of X materials twice a day. Problem, they dont do their job very well.

The mechanics require a 12 hour timer which starts and restarts upon login of your toon. (If you login at 7 am and get your mats sent to you, you will have to login again after 7 pm to get the next set. Dont login until 10pm and you dont get the next set until after 10am tomorrow). These types of timers are frustrating. I dont want to have to set timers to play a game and remind my employees to do their just, it should just happen. Set a server timer like the pledges and have the hirelings send out their mails to all players who have them hired.

There should be no need to play round robin pegging the login server on every toon just to trigger the mails. There has to be a more efficient way to get this done folks. Thanks for the consideration.

It is a bit frustrating, but I just work with it and collect them once a day on each toon instead of trying for twice. I log in a toon, do my daily writs, feed my horses, sell some trash loot and then log to the next toon and repeat. Even if I come back later to just collect my hireling mail again, it's hardly worth the log in/log out time for just that one aspect so I typically don't bother. If there were some other time related activity that I were hitting up twice a day, then I may see it as more of an issue.

*shrug* It's not a big deal. It's free stuff. I log in first thing every morning, run the writs on 9 girls, and then decide who I'm leveling that day, and head out. Most days I don't get logged back in on everyone. Is it lost mats? Yeah. But then, whoever I'm on the whole rest of the day is gathering anyway, not to mention the writs I do on the highest level girls.

I find the 12 hour timer is good for ensuring I get my 1 mail per hireling per character once a day. The 24 hour timer not so much because of differences in log in times. So the extra skill point just ensures I will get the one.

TBH I found them so underwhelming I respecced out of them.

Here's 3 rubedite ore, 1 corundum, and about once a year, a gold temper, which you already have a few dozen of.

    Yippee!

Agree totally, it's very underwhelming, especially if you are already doing some farming now and then, then the amounts are ridiculous. Though they may hold some value for people who NEVER farms resources, but still plays everyday. Over time they'll still accumulate a bit of resources they can use

I get atleast a Temper, Rosin, or Wax on a daily basis. The hirelings perks feel like they've improved since launch. I've even had a couple times where I would pull out x2 from a single hirelings mail (i.e. x2 Wax) They actually are quite good perks.

Then again I also have literally every single non-PVP skillpoint possible...for me its ano brainer to invest into anything I can... I still have an excess of points with nothing to spend them on.

Ah yes. The problem of logging in up to 14 characters twice per day. That must be, what? 10 minutes per trip. If you allow for regular congestion and comms hiccups; along with the untold effort of having to accept the daily reward.

Let's say somewhere between 60-90 minutes to get it all done. Twice a day. Up to 3 hours a day, without even playing.
    No wonder you're miffed.

Now it occurs to me why "the servers are overloaded" (assuming someone said that once, in order to quote it).

A wise philosopher once said: "You are the water that spins the wheel at Mother's Mill".
A less wise rapper said (4.374 milllion times) "Feed your addiction; pay your subscription".

I think you'll find, that according to the Zenimax Gold Extraction Manual, the process works as intended.

Unless you have absolutely nothing else to spend points on or you're really desperate for the pathetic amount of mats you get from them, hirelings are a waste of skill points. On days when I received anything from them it was usually 1-2 racial style mats and 3-6 units of the crafts' main resource. Good job, Pacrooti, you found me ONE *** node. If you're lucky, you get a temper too. The funky timers make it even more useless. I respec'ed after trying them for a while.

I've never understood why they don't just deliver the hireling mails every 12/24 hours regardless of whether or not you log in. It's not like you're going to make millions by letting them accumulate for a month or two.

Of course, we'd need a proper in-game mail client and that's never going to happen.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

A real QOL issue here. Just double the amount of mats instead of logging in each room twice a day. Please sort it out zos

between my 15 characters that have the skill points invested, I can regularly count on 1-2 of each type of gold improvement mat per day. Add to that the 3-4 I get of each by doing writs each day on them, it's a great source of those materials, which I can then sell in guild traders for gold, or use to upgrade my gear. I haven't had to buy gold improvement mats in over 2 years. Well worth the hour spent to get the skill points needed to upgrade the hirelings.

If I am going to re-level a character, I will sometimes spec out of the hirelings to put better skills on my bar so I can efficiently run content, but that's only temporary until I get more skill points

I really like the suggestion of just doubling the amount of items instead of having 2 mails per day AND doing it without having to login.

Seems this would be less taxing on the servers. If the entire thing was done on a daily timer, say when the pledges reset, the mails could just be sent to all the players who had hired the hirelings. One procedure run at a specified time, less checks on login, less timer tracking.

Jewelry hirelings should be in game, plus Blacksmithing should be sending you DUST, sometimes you get dust from blacksmithing nodes.

Absolutely agree, i have to setup timer on my phone to not forget about that hirelings... what if 12 hours timer would be reduced to, say 11 hours?

This game already has 20h timers (not 24h!). why hirelings use24/12h timers? it is puzzle for me...

Yes tedious, but you can get the 12 hour synced w/o much effort if you do plan to run them.

Just skip one delivery completely past last timer on all (use latest timer) and then they are all synced for next time.

I let them sync between 0600 and 1000 AM/PM as I don't play later than that and just give them a 5 min window to account for server/mail burp.

Some days that's all I even do in game.

When you've got hirelings on all of your characters & you're picking them up every day it adds up.

While I do grab nodes when I pass by, I don't farm mats, and the bulk of that has come from hirelings over the past year (well, since the end of the last anniversary event anyway - doing writs every day on all of my characters during that event used up most of my previous stockpile of mats). Granted I've got hirelings on far more characters than most people (45), but still it adds up over time.
