What does more damage? Rapid Strikes or rending? on paper (tooltip) it appears that rapid does but then rending has a bleed? I do see that rending is the go-to for stam builds but just curious as to why so popular?

And yea, I suck at maths and such which is why the question... ;)

    Rending slashes is better, since it gives you window where you can use other skills and light or even heavy attacks while it still deals damage. PvE is all about damage over time abilities.

    @Joxer61

    Well technically Rapid Strikes since you will get 10x off per rending, if you're comparing. Rending is used on all stam classes since you have to cast it once to get more damage over the 10 seconds period than adding an extra spammable into your rotation would give you.

    With CP it bleeds a lot. On a strong single target you let it bleed for 10s and do some other damage meanwhile. Soloplay you let bleed two enemies and got for the third.

    It all may proc critical hits, glyphs and even sets. However, on weak enemies while questing its a waste. If you are into crit and direct damage then Crushing Weapon sometimes hits like a train when light attack, Skill and glyph is critting.

    Ah, so rending is more like a dot...stick em once and let it tick for 10secs while you hit with something else. KK, that's were I have been messing up, treating it like a spammable and not letting it do its thing. Thanks all, big help!!

    The general rule is, if a dot does more damage over time in 1 gcd, compared to adding 1 more spammable cast, then it's worth using, rending slashes, does more damage over 10 seconds than a single cast of flurry.

    This does not mean that on your damage report, rending will be higher than your spammable, because you use your spammable much more than your dot, it just means that per cast, it does more damage.

    So basically the general rule for dps, is keep up your dots>spam.

    What about just solo/questing/etc.? Wouldn't Rapid hit harder and the dot not so important as mobs die pretty quick?

    You need both, actually. Rapid Strikes are your main damage dealer, but you need the benefit of the bleed/DoTs from Rending. Also, you would need other supplemental DoTs and AoE damages from the likes of Deadly Cloak, Shrouded Daggers, Razor Caltrops and Endless Hail/Poison Injection (if using bow.) For PvE and you're DW, and if you're not comboing with the likes of what I had mentioned, you're really not getting the full potential of damages; particularly in dungeons and trials. I see it a lot in open world like at dolmens and world bosses (and even in dungeon runs), there are just a lot of toons/players seemingly not using or comboing/rotations (cycling through) skillsets. I don't know.. maybe some are not as use to switching between bars or need more practice or something.

    Of course, if the dot can;t run it's full duration, because the mob dies before, then it;s not worth running.
