Size isn't everything, performance and appearance count for a lot too.

All the platforms have viable communities, but as you haven't mentioned where in the world you're playing from it's worth noting that you might get as big a differential in population between servers as you'll get between platforms.

Officially, only one announcement has ever been made about the respective platform populations and that was a while ago. The populations were said to be broadly equal at that time.

Bear in mind that some PC players rely totally on addons, although not all do so by any means, and addons are not available on console.

Also bear in mind that if you're going to play on PC it's strongly advised not to purchase/play through Steam as there have been a lot of login issues through that service. Console service providers also have service interruptions from time to time, the cleanest way of playing it is by cutting out the third parties and playing on PC direct through ZOS.

Lastly, you need to appreciate that each platform requires its own account, and you cannot switch platforms (or characters between servers) on an account. If you play on PC you can create characters on both servers but your crowns if spent on one server will not be available on the other server.

I perceive the PC community as being large. I play on Xbox NA, which is very much alive and well. I have been told by guildies that have played on PC, PS, and Xbox EU that our server is healthier and has a better community (friendlier, less toxicity), but I have no first hand experience so take that with a grain of salt.

Actually, I think it’s good practice to take everything that you read on this forum with a grain of salt. Seriously, you’ll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy this side of Mos Eisley. ;)

Find a different game to play is my suggestion, the devs are ruining this one.
Unless you are willing to be a mindless sycophant and/or coddle others due to their insecurities prepare to be harrased by the Orwellian enforcers on these forums. You should also try to refrain from using any words more complex than those used by a small child due to the fact that said enforcers have made it clear that their vocabulary pool is aenemic.

The PS4 servers have the largest population total. Not, necessarily, the right community for you, but those are the largest ones.

The PC community's certainly healthy. Not sure about the XB1's.

The PC community is definitely the most active and well connected, but I've heard several times that the console community is actually larger. I assume that means both systems together, in which case it wouldn't surprise me. It's also worth noting that the communities are very divided. They have very little interaction between one another. I play on Xbox and thankfully I have my own community of players that are all very helpful and group oriented. I'll just say this: if you join on Xbox, don't listen to area chat in Riften or Vulkhel Guard. Those places are home to everything bad about this game.

I don't think any of us know. That said, I would keep in mind that not everybody who owns consoles has the "pro" versions of said consoles. It's kind of weird to frame the poll like you did.

There's only one gaming platform, PC ;)

And on the serious note. There was a thread not so long ago (I think it was Summerset Event related) where someone complained that there's not many people playing on console side (I think it was xbox).

It's an MMO after all, majority will play on PC probably anyway, not to mention that PC had a head start after release...

I’m curious about the first statement. Can you, or anyone else, please provide a reference to back that up? I have been told that other than the metrics available on Steam players, that no other data/metrics have been released. Is that not true?

The statements that I’ve seen from ZOS previously have just been conjecture, like “the player population is doing well”.

I’m really curious since I have friends that regularly state that the player population is in decline, but as far as I can tell they have no data and are full of it. I’ve pointed to the Steam data set, but they can always shrug that off since it’s not our platform.

    Thanks, either way.

I don't think there is a wrong answer. I play on PS4 and have found that the game and community are both great. Though, be ready for the omnipresent "Unusually long load time" message. And, there are no add-ons, which are either a really good or really bad thing, depending on who you talk to.

I would say the Xbox One X offers an incredible experience...and only $500 per console where you can both share access to the base game. (You still both need to buy DLC/chapters separately per gamertag)

on PC you'd need to spend far more for a true 4k experience with ultra video settings.
The PS4 Pro does not offer ultra video settings.

No one know's which community is larger/better so pick what you prefer but consider you're asking on the website vs Xbox or PS4 so the poll will likely be driven by the PC community as this is their main portal for social interactions.

Thing is that you don't need a beast of a PC/Laptop to play TESO...

Yeah, I'd think the possibility of add-ons is a major thing to consider. If you think you'd want to use them, go PC.
(A secondary thing would be whether you have any friends who play, in which case go for the same platform as them.)

..oh, or which one you can both play at the same time on, if any. Like, if you have two PCs that can run it, but not two of the same console.
