Fair guide for healer vet build

So im aware this subject appears in several other threads however i have a problem with the many many too many acronyms and fragmented/outdated info.
Been playing eso for a while now but with huge breaks so im not sure if from the 2 years ive actually got more than 3-4 months of playing. Being that im now in my 30s and have been playing mmos most of my life, i am a quite peculiar type of player these days who prefers to stay away from drama and the usual berating that goes on when stuff goes wrong in groups. Basically ive quite isolated myself and only cared about solo challeges with my healer class. I never paid attention to guides and such things as i just wanted to deal with things while experiencing them for myself. However i reached that time when i do need to start running vet dungeons and i find the whole thing a bother. I dont want to hinder my group. I realized that in these past two years much has changed and possibly my specs now are not the choices i would make if i were to start again, nor are my gears. But im not sure where to start.
Im looking for suggestions in terms of gear, hp, skills and without the acronyms which i see everywhere (for sets and dungeons and classes too). Im not trying to be the superhero healer, just to know whether i meet the basics or not. Thank you!

That is more or less the current meta which is based on being a templar healer or trying to make your healer as templar-like as possible. You are actually underutilizing a night blade healer using it this way, but a lot of high end DPS & tank builds assume their healer conforms to the current templar template. It isn't a big deal in 99% of the content, but becomes a problem in certain hard mode fights (dungens with special conditions to beat the main bosses), vet dlc dungeons, and vet trials.

One thing to remember, about most build advice, is a large number of reccomendations are for handling Vet HM on the most difficult trials. If your not doing that, well, you can be pretty effective just by making some reasonable choices.

In other words, if you pick anything listed in the 3rd post, you will be an effective healer in anything other that a few Vet HM trials.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

How to be effective Healer 101

    1) Don't let people die
    2) Tell people why they died.

Forg0t to mention im a breton templar :)
Thank you. All. Ill be looking into these as im sure i do not have yet any of these items lol
I always play support in all my games but i dont always choose to be a group dependant healer. I enjoy being solo and so i mostly play as dps. In the normal dungeons i am perfectly fine with just one heal slotted and rest some dps skills it helps especially since here i find mostly low levels who struggle with the dps as they are.

The problem for me was the lack of an actual skill treee somewhere to be able to orient myself better. The stuff im wearing now its too old and back from when i started the game and hit 160. I never really felt like changing anything, it was sufficient. Another thing that got me confused was the multitude of skills especially the class skills versus weapon skills. Till now i havent respecced anything so im sure some of my past choices are obselete today. But for example, to play solo, i needed some dps. Initially i thought since the heals im using were healing staff skills i would do great on destruction staff skills as dps. Somehow i was wrong or just didnt choose the right stuff. When i came back to the game couple months ago i noticed im much beter wih class skills in fact.

Also im wearing light. And theres something im noticing often when fighting bosses and geysers. Theres certain skills that one shot me while others barely take damage a third of their hp. Thats what scares me. Im 487 cp and ive invested consistently in defenses to no avail. I dont know what is that im doing wrong.

That's to be expected with certain Enemies, as most enemies have a unique mechanic which can Insta-kill players with low armor rating, Albeit in numbers (more noticeable in normal march of sacrifices as between tarcyr and balorgh are some werewolf enemies with a mean heavy attack that can even 1-shot the sturdiest of tanks.) I recommend checking out @paulsimonps Community-assisted Damage Mitigation Calculator.

Interestingly, I have an Argonian Templar Healer I am Working on, When I get him to champion ranking, I'll be using a combination of kagrenacs hope, Bogdan and Worms Raiment.

If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

The quick and dirty on high end Templar healing is that you do big heals while supporting resource Regen. You are going to frequently cast healing orbs and luminous shards, but keep enough mp available to hit breath of life, that purge/hot, and that massive aoe heal. You will probably keep combat prayer on the bar to buff and give minor health return. The other 4 abilities are going to be a little more situational. You may keep 1 attack on the bar like Spears for low healing times etc etc etc

Position yourself in right place, group need to be in front of you. Try to NOT spam Breath of Life, unless you use Olorime. It's expensive. You need to make sure you have enough resources in any time. Train yourself to use Healing Springs instead, use BoL only in Oh Darn! situations.
Keep Combat Prayer uptime whenever possible, but group safety is more important.
Drop your synergy abilities for group to get resources every 15-20 seconds. I tend to throw Shards right on top of the Tank, then few Energy Orbs for everyone.
Coordinate with other healer and tank when to drop Horn, again, try to get as much uptime as possible.

If everything above is done, drop some damage/buff abilities, Power of the Light/Puryfing, Blockade of Storms, Ritual of Retribution/Extended. I also tend to equip beam to help a little with execution.

    point 2 is very important.
doesnt have to be the healer's job tho.

Templar healer has too many good skills to slot them all with only 10 slots. So one needs to make choices. My magplar is a 'pug healer' - that means she needs to heal a group that doesn't know how to position, deal with a boss in her face if the tank is a fake, do reasonable dps if the dd's lacks dps (and/or the team is staying healthy). So that (and the desire to comfortably solo stuff) drives my skill slotting choices.

    Resto bar:
    - Extended Ritual. Purge/HoT and large radius.
    - Channeled Focus. Magic regen + big defense = safely cast nonstop.
    - Mutagen. Solid HoT.
    - Healing Springs. Cheap mini burst heal with good radius and great range.
    - Breath of Life. Rarely used but when needed it saves a life - so gotta slot it.

    Lightning staff bar:
    - Elemental Drain. Free, does not aggro so you can tag every foe before the fight even starts if needed, debuff, magicsteal.
    - Luminous Shards. Sustain support + AoE dps.
    - Blockade. Off balance + AoE dps.
    - Purifying Light. Dps multiplier and 'HoT' for anyone who stays close to the target (like the tank). Grants minor sorcery to group.
    - Puncturing Sweeps. Damage + self heals allows me to go toe-to-toe with a boss as long as it takes to solo him if necessary (like if the tank if a fake).

Notes on other popular (and good) skills that I'd like to slot but just don't have room for:
    - Reflective Light is a solid alternative to Purifying Light and will grant the same minor sorcery to your team.
    - Combat Prayer is a good skill but for a pug healer, the 8% boost to my dd's is generally not impressive and pugs don't reliably 'stack in front of the healer'. Short duration and position requirements are problematic.
    - Orbs. Harder to catch the synergy than shards. Does not add the dps that shards does.
    - Radiant Glory. Very nice execute but if the boss is already down low the hard part of the fight is over.
