This also explains the problem of Socialism. If you divide the pot among everyone there is no point for the masses to do anything cause they are just going to be taken care of which creates a lazy society.

You seem to know much about socialism, it takes you too easy to speak for the masses. I wonder what country are you from and where do you live.

well, that's certainly easier than moving to a place with more liberal sweepstakes protocols, or working to change the laws. it still seems kind of peripheral to the story and gameplay, though.

Why would anyone move from the state or country they live in because ZOS decides to do something really stupid instead of giving in game rewards that everyone can participate in no matter their state or country? ZOS should have had more insight than that.

No, just no. I don't want the money I pay them to go to an event that I can't even participate in. That was ridiculously unfair to many of the player base.

That’s a fair point. I’ll add that $1mil could have bought some pretty good server upgrades, or funded a large team to go fix every bug in the game. Seems like kinda a waste of money in hindsight.

I mean really who needs a whole million? That's why I hate the Lottery. Why have one $50mill winner when you can have 100 $500,000 winners.

Cuz taxes. The rates rise with the size of the take.

Also cuz of greed. More people will try for a lesser chance of being uber rich rather than a better chance of a much smaller amount of money. Look what happens when the lottery reaches absurd levels of $500 mil+. The pot grows larger faster with each day there is no winner.

Or you know.. cus it would entail 100 people getting the exact winning combination of numbers, in which case it would be split 100 different ways. XD

Also, who won? Anyone? Why did we never hear ANYTHING about them, do they like cats? Do they still play? Was it a chinese gold selling bot? Or a ghost?

I may stay gone but events in this manner build the community and address all the individual focused, or non-collective approaches in the past that tend to create division and separation

It was not $1mil. It was $50k each year for 20 years. $50k/year will not pay for even one good developer.

What would you do with it?

    Retire and be happy

    However I agree with @Sevalaricgirl
I don't want to see the money I pay them to go for that again considering the restrictions on who can participate

Where can you retire on 1M after taxes? You would have to do a lot of investing and essentially never miss on one either. 1 Million isn't nearly what it use to be.

Plenty of places in the U.S.. Midwest, Northwest, the South, even Detroit... Plenty of places you can buy a house for under 80k and where the cost of living is super cheap. Even though you probably could live off 1mill in those places would still be smart to invest while doing so.

Hardly anybody would play. 500k doesn't "change your life" Sure you can pay off your debt and take a trip or two. You can't go and buy that car you've always wanted though cause you can't afford the insurance over time. Go read some of those stories of Rags to Riches back to Rags of lottery winners. Some won over 100 million then after like 15 years they are broke again. You have to be able to afford the items you buy. Anybody can save and buy say a Maserati, but not everyone can afford the few thousand a month in upkeep, gas, insurance etc.

If you watch Price is Right ever most people take the cash value of their prizes specially the cars. The reason is they have to pay to get the car home and then pay taxes on it. Not everyone can afford the taxes on a Vette.

This also explains the problem of Socialism. If you divide the pot among everyone there is no point for the masses to do anything cause they are just going to be taken care of which creates a lazy society.

If I won the lottery why would I buy a Lexus or a Lambo when I could have a really nice Hyundai or Mazda? Why would I want to live in a 12 bedroom Mansion in Beverly Hills when I can be set for life in a nice 2 bed 2 bath in my hometown? Being on the constant cusp of the poverty line has taught me to believe in a modest life. For me I'd go from Rags to Hidden Riches, cause choosing to flaunt you wealth makes you a poo, and mamma didn't raise me to be no poo.

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

I enjoy my job, so I'd continue working. the $500k would pay off my mortgage, the last bit of my student loans, and I'd still have $400k + to invest. I'd have enough money to change my family tree, and be able to do the things I want to do. I'd probably still put my 30 years in at work to qualify for my pension, then retire in my early 50's, with enough money to do so. $500k can change your life if you use it correctly, but you won't be "done" with work. $5 million on the other hand.... that you could just live off the interest.

@Sevalaricgirl well, that's why the alternate proposal was working to change the laws in your current residence. if it's so awesome to stay there, it's worth customizing the laws. i guess a third option is expecting big companies to do all the heavy lifting, spending extra time figuring out ways that are less profitable but more inclusive. unfortunately, "less profitable" isn't what most companies like to focus on, which is why i named the other options first.
