Animation Cancelling?

I’m studying the finer points of light weaving, animation cancelling, etc. Do I have it right in my head that when animation cancelling,the point is to cut short the LA, not the ability? Or is it the other way around? Cutting short the LA seems easy enough, but getting the ability animation shorter seems... much harder. Thoughts?

    For LA weaving, you are spot on. You "hide" the LA animation behind an ability cast.

    There are other types of animation cancelling (block cancelling, barswap cancelling, roll cancelling) that can be used to cut short skill animations--these are primarily used in PvP (and tanks in PvE, some mechanical phases in PvE where you need to heal/shield while holding block).

    Just to add the reason you're seeing that is because light attacks have a cooldown of 0.7 seconds, where abilities have a solid 1 second cooldown. Therefore you can get off 2 light attacks per 2 skills, but not 2 skills per 2 light attack, hence being much better to cancel light attacks rather than skills.

    Like the others have said, your skill sequence should be light attack -> skill -> other, where other is:

    Bash
    Dodge roll
    Bar swap
    Block

    If you do it the other way round, for example skill -> light attack -> bar swap, the light attack will tend to not go off.

    The reasoning is that the animation takes longer than the game requires for the skill to fire. It is just easier to AC a LA. We do AC skills but mostly with bar swap since it requires a block or bar swap.

    You've got it for LA weaving. For PvE rotations, bar swapping can cancel a skill. For PvP, block/bash canceling will also cancel skills that you want to fire immediately. Those two are not useful in PvE to my knowledge.
