Should character buffs/nerfs/adjustments be separate for both PvE and PvP?

The one thing is asked repetitively..

With every patch comes an adjustment of some sort to each class, effecting a lot of builds (especially DPS).. The problem with this is that most complaints come from a PvP perspective. When they make adjustments “accordingly”, it effects the PvE side of the class/ability, vise-versa (PvE effecting PvP)

One example, is damage shields; if they are such a problem in PvP (say shield stacking) change it “accordingly” to both denominations.
*Keeping in mind that the most recent notes are for the PTS and are not in effect currently on live versions.*

FF14 they do separate PvP and pve skills, so FF14 PvP is so bad.
I say don’t go extreme. If a skill is heavily used both in PvP and pve, they need to think it over. They take away something pve for a PvP change. It’s OK, just give back something new. Don’t just do one-side balance.

Actually your thread is an example of the actual problem, PvE players that don't understand quite a lot of changes in this game are also down to PvE, but "blame" PvP for them.

Ironically your damage shield example is one of those cases, where it has been stated by the devs they are not happy with damage shields in PvE because they think it is reducing the role / importance of healers.

For more irony the part of the nerf which seems to have really annoyed people - the added casting time, looks like it is down to PvE, because for PvP a cast time to address shield stacking makes little sense (a casttime is way, way too much of a nerf in PvP, to the point of barely being usable and this is coming from someone who thinks shields as the are, are too strong), so in this case it seems a change made for PvE is screwing over PvP. (and this is not the first time...)

ZOS is not going to abandon their commitment to balancing PVE and PVP together.

And the crit and penetration changes to ahields would have been sufficient for PVP and not impacted PVE.

That cast time change? That's a PVE nerf, because as Sylosi points out, ZOS thinks damage shields make healers useless,

I like how every thread suggesting this nonsense always brings up some change that is very much confirmed done for PVE side balance too (or even exclusively) yet they just cant believe that someone would want to nerf the precious PVE they have to somewhat explain PVP is the reason

Having most abilities behave the same in both environments was one of the selling points at launch. It just needs finesse.

I do think some things should be balanced differently via battlespirit though.

No. If other MMOs can do it, then so can zos. We don't need them making an entire other system of skills for PvP, it's completely unnecessary and time consuming.... and, by the way, damage shields are definitely a PvE problem, lol.

I'm not quite sure shield nerf is from pvp. Could have been caused by ppl soloing vet dlcs aswell. With all the oblivion dmg going on, was shield stacking sorc even a viable spec anymore? (Honestly no clue, i only watch streams of games that look fun but i wouldnt wanna play myself, like e.g. dont starve or dota)

I will buy that they are surprised that anyone would nerf PVE, because its not like Molag Kena is storming the forums complaining the way PVPers do.

The warning signs of incoming PVE nerfs are people saying that content is too easy or that DPS is really high, and so its much easier to ignore that those are bad things from the viewpoint of the devs.

Just stop nerfing classes! There are plenty other vectors to adjust like non-class based skills, set item perks, enchantments, and traits. These are common across all builds, and doesn't weaken specific classes. Base it on gear and items, not classes or content type.

ZoS wants pvp and pve to be similar. But pvp and pve are not similar like this. Some skills are used a lot in pve and not in pvp and vice versa. Seperate balancing can make it possible to have similar outcomes from diffrent enviroments.

PvP&PvE seperation will fix wardens problem too. They can buff skill's dmg for pve while dont messing up pvp. All skills will be usefull in boht sides and they will feel sameway too. Only numbers will be bit diffrent.

Nope. 99.9% of the time what is overpowered in PvE is overpowered in PvP and vice-versa.

Dots, aoes, aoe dots, sustain dmg these are op in pve. Arrow barrage is useless in pvp even with it's unique weapon. Many pve sets are bad for pvp and vice versa.

Burst, lining up dmg, cc, oblivion dmg these are strong at pvp. Sloads is bad pve, dawnbreaker is bad pve too. 2h skill line is thrash for pve.

There is big diffrence between game modes. Skills should be bit diffrent to feels similar at boht modes. Negate is good example. An endless stun is turned in to a mere silence. Pve usage is still less tho.
