Medium Armour resources only by killing?

byghostlightrwb17_ESO
Is the only way to get Rawhide, and its other level variations, to kill other animals? (beside deconstructing) Dont get me wrong I dont have much problem going around killing defenseless crabs but that means unlike other professions I am being hit with XP unnecessarily just to craft. Or is there another way? Because the XP gain in this game is ridiculously easy as it is. I cant help but think I got a level already from just killing crabs.

I'm not sure why you're upset about getting xp - did you want to stay low level forever? And yes, the only way to get rawhide (leather) is from killing things. it's hard to get leather from trees cause they don't have skin.

I'm not entirely sure why you think getting xp is a negative.

Some people it is not about the destination but the journey. Why create this huge world, with heaps of quests and things to do, only to feel like you are rushing through it or out leveling it.

Im a completionist, I was level nine by the time I finished in the start areas and hit Daggerfall and lot of quests I was getting were level four. After three days 1/4 of my guild is already late 20's early 30's. Hate to think all the things they missed. No thanks, I want to try and keep adventure/crating leveling at the same pace. There is no fire.

I understand that, and I'm somewhat of the same mindset. There's nothing stopping you from doing all the quests still...and being a higher level means you may not get gated for a while by needing to find a group for difficult quests. I'm still not sure why you feel getting xp is a bad thing.

Alternatively, you could create a rawhide scrap farming character, and leave the crafting and questing to your main. Consider it a minion!

hah yeah I think thats what I finally decided to do, I was always going to have an ALT but the way this crafting system works, It actually makes having numerous alts beneficial to crafting different things :)

True that! It will also help with the inventory/storage issues, especially if you're a hoarder like me!

I understand where the OP is coming from. Killing mudcrabs isn't anywhere near as satisfying as finding a node IMO.

Yupe, completely understand OP. I've got tons of iron ore and jute, but almost no leather, which of course is what i need for my medium armor... It wouldn't feel so bad if every furry animal/beast gave at least 1 scrap.

Edit: Yay, 5 Netchs in a row without rawhide scraps, how fun...

Edit 2: Even more Yay! The 6th one gave me 1(ONE) rawhide scrap, only 9 more to go...

Cloth and leather are part of the same skill. Level on the cloth, and save the leather for the gear you will equip. So far I've gotten enough just questing and killing the animals that are in the way, without having to farm specifically, to be able to outfit my leather-wearers by this method.

Well, if xp bugs you, just gather other stuff and trade it for rawhide. Can't you also disassemble medium armor to get it?

But the issue isn't on levelling. The issue is that leather crafters are getting way less materials than Cloth and Metal crafters. I'm currently level 8, i've got almost 200 iron ingots(which i use for weapon crafting) and 100+ cloth(which i don't use at all and don't even loot) and i've only been able to make a belt, a helmet and shoulders in all due to the extremely low leather drops. Almost tempted to just go Heavy Armor instead.

It also annoys me that the clothier line only benefits cloth users and not leather users.

I assume you're referring to the keen eye passive which makes cloth nodes easier to see. It's not a huge imbalance, and animals aren't really hard to see, but I agree that it would be nice if they added something to it to increase the drop rate of leather. The drop rate could use an all-around boost, really.

Still, I've so far been able to outfit my medium users without specifically farming, supplemented by decon. Mileage will of course vary. The bottleneck for me is currently Hemming, etc. I hope you find it easier as you keep leveling. :)

I second that it would be nice if they increased the droprate of rawhide a little. I always have loads of iron ore, timber and jute, but really struggle to scrape together enough rawhide to be able to craft a decent armor set for my character.

The problem isn't the leveling of the profession, the problem is the low droprate of the rawhide from animals. Compared to the other resources for professions like ore, timber, jute etc. it's really low.

yeah I guess that has been my problem, the amount of killing I have to do but doesn't always net a result. EG I killed over ten deer and got nothing, was asking in guild if they are supposed to drop hide at all, no one answered so all grumpy like I kill another deer in a "fine, I give up" type way and suddenly I got some. true that we can just level on Cloth but would just be nice to up the amount of scraps we get per kill a little.
